Looking at their first and second round draws, Cam certainly should hope to qualify and Billy probably should have a decent shout, although the others around him are confirmed dirt ballers.

Id be disappointed if one of them at least didnt join Jack and Jake in the main draw.

L96:  Jacob Fearnley WR 57 (= CH) vs (WC) Fabio Fognini (ITA) WR 107 (CH = 9 in July 2019)

Depends which Foggy turns up, I suppose...  The winner will face Berrettini (29) in the last 64.

L96:  (5) Jack Draper WR 5 (= CH) vs BYE

Bu or Darderi in the last 64

That proved a fantasy for Billy!

Pretty sure if Billy had taken the Asian route he would be top 100 by now. I fear it may be too late now with the mountain of points he has to defend on grass.

Yes, I'm pretty sure you're right. Admirable in a way that he has determined to stick with the clay, but having had virtually nout to defend since Indian Wells he has since then added in virtually nout so net net remained a few places, and not a great number of points, outside the top 100.

He maybe still will have a chance in the first 2 weeks of the grass season when, relative to what follows from Queen's and Eastbourne, only has 35 Challenger SF points dropping off from each of Surbiton and Nottingham.

Or maybe he'll just confound us all and win the Bordeaux 175 next week!

Be interested to see where Billy plays; assuming he loses week one of FO, the following week there is the Birmingham Challenger (replacing Surbiton) and the week after the 2 ATP 250s in Stuttgart and NL or ILKLEY challenger - for one, I hope he plays Ilkley, not sure how far down the field will go in the other events. But Birmingham, Ilkley, Queens and Eastbourne as a run would be great to see if he chooses that route. Ditto for Evo, expecting he will play Ilkley this year as it no longer clashes with Queens; not sure re Jake, assume he will play a 250 although you never know.

The Ilkley field for the mens could be the strongest ever this year, v excited for it. Havent got tickets but hope I can sneak along one day mid week.

I hope that Billy is looking at his career slightly longer term than if he gets in the Top 100 for a couple of weeks. Over half of his current points (around 300) are on grass, so he was likely to drop down after Wimbledon anyway.

After years on the ITF tour, I don't blame him for testing himself at the biggest events on different surfaces. That's why most people play the game, for those kind of opportunities. If he does drop closer to 200, he'll then have to decide the best approach going forward.

But in fairness he did play a lot of weak Challengers in India this year so has had no shortage of opportunities to crack the Top 100. Ultimately I don't think the rankings lie.

You talk about top 100 for just a couple of weeks, some would even say that 100 is just a number

But I do think just getting into the top 100 at all is a huge thing for many players and to my mind I would be surprised if it wasn't for Billy given where he has come from, and 3 times within the last 8 months having been just a win away ( indeed just a set away ) from being top 100. Maybe Billy has had a fight with himself re short term vs longer term schedule, maybe he is even in denial.

I think all things considered it would be great to get the top 100 thing ticked off ( he is close, had a window, and Asia may have been a good option ). Ticked off and free up the mind a bit more for just cracking on to be all he can be.

If it's not on his mind at all, fair dos but I'd be surprised.
