Week 21 - French Open (Roland-Garros) - Paris, France (clay) - men's qualifying draw

The list has now been published, rankings used those of 21st April.  Billy Harris will be seeded & Dan Evans is there.  Paul Jubb is currently the 19th alternate, while Jay Clarke (31st), Oliver Crawford (61st) & Ryan P (74th) are are quite a bit further down.

I see that the two French youngsters, Maé Malige (19) & Moïse Kouamé (16), whose names have cropped up in some recent threads, have both been handed qWCs, with CD commenting on the Madrid Masters thread that he thought that the FFT might be itching to go the whole hog & give the latter, as the rising star in the men's ranks, a main draw WC.  Well, somehow it resisted...  wink

Turning to our lads, I see that Darts now shows Paul Jubb as 12th alternate &, as Luka Pavlovic (8th) has now been given a qWC, I guess that makes him 11th...

Kouamé's results the past couple of weeks just nudged him out, I think

He was on a great roll and then lost a bit of momentum

Forced the FFT's hand

There's four 15 and 16 year-olds in the girls' qualis and only MK here in the boys but that's not unreasonable, given how girls mature more quickly

They gave wild cards to Stan, Gasquet, As well as Schoolkate and Nava in their exchange deals, so 4 taken up left less room to manoeuvre for younger players I guess

Too soon for Kouame imo. He's beaten two Top 500 players. Qualifying and another shot at the juniors should suit him just fine.

Yes, I think it's for the best too

I just know they've been looking at 'bigging' him up and it didn't quite make the cut

Which, as you say, is all for the good

Crazy tennis guys like Atmane can enjoy their MD wildcards, it's more up their street :)

And Atmane almost Top 100 (even if he has been vulturing points at Asian challengers). Well someone has to - Billy didn't quite manage it.

Billy didn't quite manage to get over the top 100 line when he was in Asia earlier on in the year, picking up decent points. But Atmane's 2 titles for 200 total points plus a further SF have been from mid April on when post Miami Billy could have been in Asia again and probably getting into the top 100 ( as it is he is still only 17 points away in the 05/05 rankings ). But admirably or otherwise he chose the European clay route, replacing not a lot with not a lot.
