Jake won 9 of the last 10 games against a solid and lifelong clay court player. I dont know how much experience Jake has on clay, probably very little, but it feels like his learning curve (apologies!) is very steep indeed - tremendous improvement in just a short period of time. He probably regards any wins on clay this year as genuine bonus points, given its his first experience at this level, so Im curious how many wins he can rack up here, in Rome and at RG before the grass comes around. I presume he will gain automatic entry into those 2 tournaments, rather than having to play in qualifying (given his rapid rankings rise). bravo!
Really pleased to see he's got to grips with clay so quickly (even if there's probably still plenty of room for improvement.) He seems to be a very fast learner in general: a typical pattern in his matches (as in this one) is for it to be close in the first set and then much more comfortable in the second/third, which suggests he's working his opponents out in the first few games and then figuring out how to adjust what he's doing to counter/dominate them.

Can't wait to see who he gets drawn against next!
L96: Bu Yunchaokete (CHN) WR 72 (CH = 64 last week) vs (Q) Jacob Fearnley WR 68

On clay, doesnt feel the worst draw Jake could have got.
Yunchaokete has won only 7 matches this year. The majority of his ranking points come from hard courts. He has never beaten a top 200 player on clay. The bookies will have JF as favourite
