Anyway, good as it was to follow Tim and Greg hopefully we will all be judging Jack to have well surpassed them once he's had much more of a career.
Even better if that's not too much more of a career and we at least start wondering if he could be an Andy and Fred challenger.
Fanciful maybe at this stage but that would be great. And I hear that he's going to have at least one Slam under his belt in the next year so that will be a start
Yep, its a dead cert on that slam win.
going back though, hes on Tim and Gregs career record and hes only just starting his career - no concerns he wont surpass them, both had undervalued careers by the public I hasten to add.
Final: (14) Casper Ruud (NOR) WR 15 defeated (5) Jack Draper WR 6 by 7-5 3-6 6-4
He'll surely have learnt a lot over the last 10 days or so.
Interesting comment by Jonathan Jurejko at *2-4 in the final set in the Beeb's live text commentary on the match:
Uh oh. A tired double fault by Draper isn't how he wants to start this vital game. But he recovers with a wonderful bit of play, lunging across court for a backhand which he whips back the other way.
Quality. Draper's mood takes a turn again when he is docked a first serve for another time violation.
He's so exasperated at Mohamed Lahyani. But Draper recovers to level at 30-30...

What was Lahyani up to? Can anyone explain?
He gave Jack a time violation for taking too long on his serve, more than once. Hence Jack was upset about it.
Jack had a little wobble when he served for the first set
Ruud had a similar wobble at the end of the second
The rest of the two sets showed some super tennis
And Casper was just a little bit stronger physically in the third
He's 4 years older, Jack hasn't got there quite yet, he flagged just a touch, his shots weren't quite so deep and powerful
There wasn't much in it, Jack showed some excellent tennis but he got beaten by the physically stronger guy, which is just a question of age, you just look at the graphs for speed/power/endurance ratios
Brilliant week for Jack and so close. Pleased for Ruud. Both will be ones to avoid in Paris.
Rome will be tough - hard to get back up for the next masters after doing so well in the one straight before. And Rome is slower than Madrid, usually, and also usually quite hot.
I watched most of the match. There wasn't much between them throughout the whole of the match. Actually I thought Jack looked stronger in the first set but Casper broke back and broke again. Then Jack won the second when Casper generally looked more likely. The time violation that I saw was after a particularly sapping, long rally and Jack looked absolutely knackered and was just grabbing a a little more time. I thought it was a little harsh and kind of against the hard fought but sportsmanlike approach from both players, who were applauding each other's fine play.
In the end I think Casper shaded it so fair enough, Jack will improve from this hopefully. Time and again he plays the wrong shot, towards his opponent, and plays with too much margin (because he can usually rely on his power). Ultimately this was the difference, and Casper was on many occasions able to run round Jack's forehand and play a cross-court forehand winner/piercing shot because Jack's forehand was too central, and kicked-up in the clay.
A great week and he has learned so much about clay play

Now I need to own up here, I didnt think Jack would be the level he is for a year or two due to fitness issues. I definitely got that one wrong watching him play on the unforgiving clay. Supreme effort. On the green stuff though, just how far can Jack go in the grass season? Can you imagine the furore if he got to the latter stages of Wimbledon? Would be super. Keep healthy young man. heres to a glorious British summer.
