This is a rhetorical question, but I wonder when the last time four British women beat a Top 100 ranked opponent in the same event.

I'm pretty certain it must be last year's Wimbledon when 5 managed it.

Tbf that was quite exceptional, even for Wimbledon, with Steven saying in the tournament thread that it was the first time in 37 years that we had 5 women into R2.

The 5 ( Katie B,  Emma, Sonay,  Harriet, and Lily ) all beat top 100 players in R1 and ended up with 9 top 100 wins in total ( including Harriet beating Katie in R2 ).

So I imagine that 'just' 4 is very rare and pretty amazing that it has happened on clay.

Of course I left out the magic word 'clay' that would have helped!

And none of them relying on a wild card to get into the tournament unlike at Wimbledon where the wild cards mean there are more players with chances.

Swiatek came back to beat Eala 4-6 6-4 6-2. The young lady though continues to impress.

Maybe Fran took too much puff out of her. Gauff won 0-6 6-2 7-5

Thanks

I just went to the WTA site to check the schedule - should have just looked here. smile

I see the WTA site have decided to pretend mens matches aren't happening in their version of the schedule - surely this is shooting themselves in the foot as I ended up skipping straight from the WTA site to the ATP site to check it instead to get a proper sense of what time the matches would actually happen etc. Surely it would make sense to at least put 'other match' or something on the schedule so people dont end up doing that but tbh im glad when the tours can be a bit more acknowledging/happy about showing the other gender also at their event!

I just checked weather in Madrid, and its pretty warm today but also windy especially this afternoon. That wont suit Emma, especially as not on a more sheltered show court like she was for her last match.

I thought the same and then found on the WTA site, when you look at the draw or order of play, there is a PDF in  the top right corner that says "download order of play" or "download draw" and they list the full order of play including the mens matches or the full draw right through to the final.

I still think the best place to get the draw and orders of play is the TNNS app. It covers ATP, WTA and ITF and shows the orders of play for events like Madrid without any messing around like you describe above. Its a cracking tool, IMO, easy to navigate and covering the above, live scores, stats, head to heads, profiles, rankings etc etc.

For a one stop and easy to use, well presented, stop for all things youd typically need, you cant beat it. Some of it is links out to other tools, such as LTR for live rankings, or ITF for the ITF draws. But saves clicking around different screens etc . I dont think it does players future schedules or entry lists like Darts does for the mens, although not sure there is any app that does that for the womens WTA game - or maybe Im out of date with that?

The TNNS app is very good when it works - but as it relies on the ITF for information it can be lacking. For instance it doesn't show any singles matches in Sharm this week.

But for ATP and WTA tournaments it is excellent.

agreed - but presumably any place taking the ITF feed will have the same problem? Do the betting sites like sofmascots/Bet365 take their ITF info from elsewhere?

ps it also includes results from the UTS exhibition events and similar when played, cant recall but dont think TNNS includes UTR though .

The betting sites will get their data direct from the ITF's data provider Infront. And let's face it, it is betting on tennis that is financing live scoring in the first place. It's vital that the data is presented in timely fashion on betting sites or everything would go to pot.

Katie has met her match in Paolini - not surprising but I thought she might do a little better
