RE: Weeks 22 & 23 - French Open (Roland-Garros) - Paris, France (clay) - men's main draw

Annabel Croft on the Beeb's live commentary page after Jack went down to 7-5 3-6 2-6 *0-2:

This is extremely worrying. This is a bit of a crisis moment, isn't it?

Alexander Bublik is playing such contained, solid and intelligent tennis. Everything thing he's doing right now is in a zone. He has hit a purple patch and he is looking inspired. Everything he is touching is turning to gold.

And Jack Draper is looking a little lost out here... he doesn't know what to do or how to halt this kind of momentum from Bublik.

Tim Henman did say before the match started that he feared for Jack against this guy. I'd never seen Bublik play so I didn't know what he was talking about.

I do now, unfortunately.

Thats a disappointment - losing both today. Still, wed have taken that at the start and Jack will no doubt learnt a lot from today

Fair play to Jack he was scrapping like his life depended on it until the end. His head never went down.

Yes, Bublik was just too good for Jack .. as Djokovic was too good for Cam .. but what a Roland Garros we're having and what a clay court swing we're having smile

Sounds like Bublik was awesome - better man on the day won. Simples.

Bublik though is best on grass - his record in the 4 slams, to date , has been far and away best at Wimbledon; his grass court record includes Halle title and two Newport RI finals.

On grass this season, looks like hes down for Halle, Eastbourne and then Wimbledon. One to watch for sure - just hope he doesnt play those underarm serves he has a penchant for!

Jack's thoughts on the match, as reported by the Beeb.

Watched most of sets 2-4... Bublik was just playing great tennis. Big serve, beautiful drop shots, winners from both sides. I've always put him in the category of Kyrgios, very talented and could upset anyone on his day but maybe not as committed as some of the other guys. However, hearing his pressers after, I quite like the guy. Very down to earth and honest - not arrogant.
