Week 16 - ATP 500 - Open Banc Sabadell - Barcelona, Spain (clay) - DOUBLES

Plenty of Brit interest in this one!

L16:  (1) Harri Heliövaara (FIN) & Henry Patten CR 7 (3+4) vs Qualifier

I hope Henry's injury, whatever it is (reported by paulisi on the MC doubles thread), clears up in time for them to be able play in this event.

L16:  (4) Máximo González & Andrés Molteni (ARG/ARG) CR 37 (19+18) vs  Sander Arends (NED) & Luke Johnson CR 102 (52+50)

L16:  Hugo Nys & John Peers (MON/AUS) CR 54 (25+29) vs (3) Julian Cash & Lloyd Glasspool CR 31 (16+15)

L16:  Matteo Arnaldi & Tomás Martín Etcheverry (ITA/ARG) UNR (0+219) vs Joe Salisbury & Neal Skupski CR 53 (36+17)

Henry had a problem with his right hip. He might be better off giving this week a miss...

Thanks for that, wolf.  In that case, I'm inclined to agree with you.  Better to be ready for Madrid...

wolf was right:  Henry & Harri have been replaced by Korda & Thompson, who've been promoted to fifth seeds.  hmm

Great result for Luke and Sander - really good. Hope they can push on, feels like they have not quite made a breakthrough at Tour level and could do with something to push on into the bigger events

Tbf they have won a couple of ATP 250 titles, Metz in November ( beating Cash & Glasspool in the SF ) and Hong Kong in January. From Metz on, Luke and Sander have risen from.WRs 68 & 63 respectively to WRs 48 & 50.

Been a bit quieter at tour level just recently ( though they won the Monza Challenger last week ) but yes that looks a very good win and would be good to push on again, particularly at ATP 500 level. Be great if they could keep on rising and get into Masters in the future, tough ask as that is.

Youre right Indy, I was a little unfair, but I think Id hoped they would be knocking on the door of Masters events by now, and I guess that is what I meant by a breakthrough , rankings starting to rival where players like Jamie are in the 20-40 range. Hopefully soon!

And the buggers then had the brass neck to retire at 6-3 5-3 up against the local qualifiers, Iñigo Cervantes & Oriol Roca.  furious

That is a great win for JOe and Neal! Signs from past few weeks that they are starting to get a little bit of form back
