Im not sure Dzumhur was a tough draw on clay. His lower Level form was often on clay; at tour level, hes been in 4 finals, 3 hard court and 1 grass.
I think Cam did ok with that draw and he got a decent win out of it. Same for khachanov, hes played 10 tour level finals and all on hard court. And won one masters, indoors in Paris. A fast surface.
I dont think Cam should think that is the worst draw by any stretch of the imagination.
Cam got the first set 7-6, its on serve at 4 all in the second. Hang in there, Cam
He is not listening to you JonH
i know - no sooner Id posted than he lost the set quickly. Still in it though
Nuts! He was just a couple of holds from the win serving at 4-3 when I last checked the scores before. Come on Cam!
Unrelated to Barcelona, but I noticed from the calendar on the ATP site that there is no tournament in Surbiton this year. This is a shame, it is really close to me.

Yeah it got taken out when the LTA re jigged the grass season for this year - it is a shame. thought they at least may have tried to replace it with an ITF event, but no.

I emailed the LTA a while back and was told it was because of Queens now having women
I emailed them back and told them it was a disaster as far as I was concerned, Surbiton was a completely different beast from Queens, and told them, reasonably politely but not altogether so, that they could stick their new Queens where the sun doesn't shine
Queen's was the starting point. A WTA event at Queen's meant no WTA event in Edgbaston, and they have kept Edgbaston on the calendar by giving it Surbiton's week as an ITF women's/ATP challenger event. Obviously a separate issue of very few events outside the south of England.
It wasn't the drubbing it looks, many games were very close especially in 1st set.
I thought Jake got thrashed - BUT he didn't look an idiot on clay and I do think he'll get better quickly
i.e. Jake never had a chance, Alex was better in every regards and the score was fair, to me
BUT I'd expected him to be more at sea, more out of his depth
His main problem was that he can't slide - which he will learn, I believe
And that his weapons were rather less effective on clay - which is more difficult to solve but he'll find ways to make them better
Yes, looking at the recap now you are quite right!! My view was coloured very much by the first 2 games.... he had three break points against Alex in the opening game., and game points in the second, so it seemed to me he was not out of depth at that level. I wasn't watching it consistently but they did seem to have some quite decent rallies in other games also.
