Is China hard court or clay court? Anne could have some different decisions to make by then, Emma might be back and could be the GB no. 1.

Not sure she should be included and not impressed that she didnt play here.

I suspect Emma and Anne had a discussion, looked at the likely opposition and decided Emma's presence wouldn't make much difference, as she would have played instead of Sonay. It also made sense to give Sonay experience of playing BJK Cup matches as Emma and Sonay, as the two youngest members of our top group, are likely to form the backbone of the team before too long. If they are all fit, with Emma as GB number 1 and Jodie back in the top 100, I suspect the line up in September could be Emma, Katie, Sonay, Jodie and either Harriet or Olivia.

Hmm, in retrospect Sonay won both her matches as Emma would have been expected to. But I both rather doubt such a discussion and that they would in advance think it wouldn't make much difference. I suspect it was more likely just down to Emma ( and/or her reps ). But who knows  ...

I don't think there would have been any discussion. The LTA would have been told that Emma was not available and they were diplomatic about her absence. There was an argument for playing Raducanu and Kartal in singles if everyone was fit.

That is certainly a likely pairing before long and come September it may be Emma at number one and Katie and/or Sonay in the number two slot. Anne will have a choice of which of a growing squad of top 100 players she uses in each match.

Is it possible that Olivia was carrying a niggle and couldn't play the doubles? She is not in either Stuttgart or Rouen draw and would have easily made either with Tereza?

I wonder if Olivia and Tereza (who played BJKC on hard court) are just resting this week. For me Olivia plays much better when she's paired with a power player, which is why she and Heather were disappointing in Malaga. Think Heather's a bit of the same.

If the September team for the finals is something like Emma, Katie, Sonay, Jodie and Olivia. It would give Anne three options for the doubles depending on the opposition, Katie or Jodie with Olivia for power plus doubles finesse or Katie and Jodie for power plus power.
