Week 15 - 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Playoffs, The Hague, Netherlands - Indoor Clay

I also believe in Katie Swan's potential (to become top 50, beyond that who knows) but I believe 2025 is a year of building a fitness base necessary to play top tennis.

Yes, let Katie concentrate on that. She doesn't need the BJK Cup this year at ieast.

I'd probably be taking Fran. She's not exactly a mug on hard courts. When she last played on hard ( outdoor I assume but still ... ) she won an ITF W75 tournament in Brazil ar the end of March, beating 3 top 200 players on the way with Jeanjean WR 123 in the final. A few weeks earlier in Mexico, after qualifying in a WTA 500, she beat Sherif WR 68 by retiral but she was 6-4 3-0 up.

And if things continue as they have been of late, she will be full of confidence.

Surely for the time being, a stronger player to have for back up.

Didn't Katie make her GB debut at 16? A shame she hasn't been able to play as many times as she ought to have by now.

IIRC the last time she was in the squad she was mainly on tambourine duty!

So Emma Raducanu has pulled out of the BJKC Finals to take a wild card into Seoul. Which is a choice. Even though clear why she has done it - to try and ensure a seeding at the Australian Open. But to pull out with a week to go is poor.

PS Can this chat have a new title / someone create a new chat.

You could do it yourself! Just click start a new topic at the top of this page/section, give it a title and off we go! Good luck!

Not a surprise but still disappointing. Especially as I don't think theres any real risk of her not being seeded for Oz irrespective of playing Seoul given how the points flows of all those in the 20-40 range are flowing.

I thought our draw looked really positive but given comparative form I think we'll lose to Japan now (assuming Osaka doesn't also withdraw).

Id assume Osaka will withdraw tbh. Lowkey never that bothered about BJK/Davis Cup (is that scandalous or common?!) so fair play. Now dont lose in the first round of Seoul!

I think that it does seem pretty poor and unprofessional from Emma ( and / or her wonderful team of advisers, hmm )

On the face of it nothing has really changed in the near week since she lost in the US Open. And I agree, with the points as they are are and the confidence she should have in her game, it looks unnecessary even if she / they feel an Aus Open seeding is sooo important.

No doubt a nice little £200k appearance fee for Seoul as well. And maybe a sponsor who wants her there for a little extra

Though maybe just change the title, as 9vicman also mentioned, as more and more is added to this thread?

We can't split threads but TA, as thread starter, or a mod could easily change the title.

I think it needs a new thread rather than change the title, otherwise the playoff information will be hard to find and refer to you when next years campaign starts.

So I'll start one now !

Understood - I was also sort of commenting that anyone can start a thread. There arent specific thread starters, although some do it more than others. So long as folks generally keep to structure etc, it isnt difficult. And its good if more people get involved, at least I would say so.

and not having a dig at Vicman, at all, more a general comment and bit of encouragement, maybe?!

Why do you assume Osaka will pull out? It's been scheduled in China at the start of the Asian swing, so more convenient for players if not for fans or media.

Don't think it's scandalous or common not to like team competitions. For me, much more interesting than the weekly ebb and flow of the tour and at it's best, a unique atmosphere.
