Week 15 – ITF W15 Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt - Hard

No Brits in qualifying this week as Annabelle Lammas withdrew today.

BUT big presence in the main draw expected with Millie, Ranah, Hep, Holly and KATIE SWAN biggrin all on the acceptance list.

Edit - Typos !

Katie entered for the next 3 weeks, currently alt 41 for the 21/4.  She was alt 42 for next weeks W35 and easily made it in after withdrawals.  It will be hugely positive if she manages to play all 3 weeks but it might be smarter to see how this week goes, miss next week and then play the following week.  It's one thing training but playing is a different ballgame and allowing her body to acclimatise would, IMO, be sensible.

Yes, it changes all the time. Katie was at Q12 for w/c 14/04 and Alt 39 for the following week last time I looked.
(Only a handful of typos in my first post - oops)

Is there a tournament in Sharm every week?

Sharm, Monastir and Antalya have weekly W15 tournaments for most weeks but not all. For 02 December 2024 rankings the W15s added were

W15 - ANTALYA 24, TURKEY      W15 - MONASTIR 47, TUNISIA     W15 - SHARM EL SHEIKH 21, EGYPT

Also W15 - HERAKLION 10, GREECE. Heraklion has several series of W15s through the year.

Fingers crossed for Katie, and of course for all our players. It has been a long time since Katie has been playing and I wonder if she is hoping to get enough points to get a wildcard into Wimbledon qualifying. Anyway the big thing is to get matches in - hopefully some wins and a few ranking points, and let's hope she can get a few tournaments back under her belt.

I think the first step is to play matches without suffering physical setbacks. I'd be surprised if she's thinking about much more beyond that at this stage

Millie and Ranah also lost the first set and then took the second. 1-6 6-3

Can they do any better?

Tough draw for Holly and Katie (first match back) but not a bad score against the second seeds.

QF:- Amelia Rajecki (GBR) / Ranah Akua Stoiber (GBR) (258+430) [1] v Mariam Atia (EGY) / Yasmin Ezzat (EGY) (1120+571)
