As the qualifying draws are up for the U16 Juniors Nationals, I thought it worth putting up a thread - I hope that is ok, DavidC or anyone else, please feel free to delete later!
The U16 event runs from Saturday 5th April (qualies start) to 11th April. Main draw starts 7th April
Qualies is a 32 draw, 8 get through to join the 24 in the main draw for singles. Doubles will be 16 pair fields.
Always interesting to see who gets the wildcards - usually the younger players, to let them lay up, especially in the 16U which doesn't overlap with the 14U
And here in the girls, we've got real youngsters. Quali wildcards have gone to:
Thanks for the information - looking forward to this.
Just out of interest, do other countries have their own National Champs?
France does, not sure about others
Generally, it's very important for the younger categories but the 18U, for instance, doesn't usually have the best players in it - they're supposed to have moved up by that point and also it usually clashes with the US Open so the older ones are over there
NB In France, you HAVE to play your own category, and only that category - no doubling up

That's interesting, I am glad we are copying something from France then because they seem to have a very good youth system. We should also be looking at Italy's system because they are doing exceptionally well too (especially the boys side). I am sure we could learn a thing or two.

The boys side looks good in France; but the girls side is just dire at the moment
I do think it's better in terms of having a lot of kids play, easy and cheaper to play, good for kids to do sport etc etc
But in terms of producing top girls, there's a big problem - I have my own pet theories about some of the problems but some of them are rather personal to certain bigwigs and best not printed here ...

The lta have been very absent with live streaming this year so far unless Ive missed something?
I do hope it's being streamed !!!!
The problem for the LTA with most of their other livestreaming is that they're now not allowed to livestream events on Youtube - the ITF deal with the new livescore and livestream provider forbids it
Which would be OK if the new provider actually provided what they're supposed to provide but .....
