RE: Sir Andy Murray April 2025 Player of the Month Award - Nominations thread

1 Hannah Klugman for winning the J300 in Croatia on Clay!

2. North-West England Juniors - there have been three 'new' players at the 16U nationals who have really caught my eye and impressed - Aran Selvaraasan, April Sackflame and Annabel Wong - Aran in the final, April only 2012-born and Annabel who really tested Meg. AND - from what I can see - Aran is in Manchester, April is Bolton, and Annabel is Bramhall Lane, Stockport. So a tight little group. Huge well done to junior tennis up in the Manchester - great dynamic up there !!!!

3. Aran Selvaraasan - aged 14, coming through qualies, he won the 16U Nationals title. Fantastic, breakthrough performance

4. Megan Knight - aged 14, showed her talent by taking the 16U national title, now has the chance to build on it in the 18U event; also, won the doubles title, convincingly, for a well deserved double title week

5. Hermione Korpanec Davies - age 13 - won the singles title in J30 Ghana, beating the second seed. Only born on 25 Oct. 2011 - so only 13 1/2 - one of the youngest ever winners, in GB, and in the world

6. Julian Cash/Lloyd Glasspool - for reaching the Monte Carlo Masters final, beating world number ones Arevalo and Pavic in the semis, their second M1000 final as a pair, and second straight Masters final.

7. Team GB for making the finals in the BJK Cup

8. Sonay Kartal for winning both her singles in her first matches played in the BJK Cup

9. Sofia Tatu (age 13) - our new champion dirt-baller ! For winning the U14 Super Category, Portugal - her age group equivalent of W1000s. And in a really gutsy match too.

10. Hollie Smart (age 15) - for winning the under 16 and 18 LTA National Doubles titles in back to back weeks

Great stuff, just one week left now out of 4. Nominations close next Sunday night

Last few days of April month now - reminder that nominations close end of this weekend, Sunday night, vote will go up Monday morning.

Just a reminder - Madrid ATP and WTA count towards May PoM process, particularly because most of the Madrid event is week 18 and all other week 18 events are clearly part of May.

Madrid does sit a little awkwardly, however, but I think we need to keep Madrid together as a single event in the same month and May makes most sense, to me. If there is a big push back, people know I listen and am always open to others views, so would be happy to discuss further if the need arises!!

Am aware I maybe perceived as inconsistent on qualies for events and where they count - all other ATP and WTA and ITF events, like Madrid, we treat as one event. And, to be honest, the number of times someone has been nominated of the back of a normal tour qualies performance is very limited, if ever. And, for most events, qualies and main draw all take part within the same weeks time frame.

For Grand Slam events, I have typically taken the view that they are big enough events in their own right, and separated from the main slam by a few days in terms of calendar and , in Wimbledons case, by venue. And as slams, qualifying for the actual main draw has been a big thing and so I have been willing to count them as separate events and , as such, count nominations in separate months where that has arisen.

Madrid is just complicated but, at the end of the day, is the same venue as the main draw, follows straight on (indeed today we have main and qualies draws taking place on the same day) and as an ATP/WTA event as opposed to a slam; so keeping them together and therefore counting them in May makes sense to me.

But if all this feels a bit strange and awkward, the main thing is to ensure that a player doesn't effectively get nominated twice in different months for the same event - Madrid qualies and main draw are the same event; Grand slam qualies and main draw have always had that veneer of separate events, and hence the different if inconsistent approaches when it comes to how they count.

Anyway, dissertation over, haha

Worthy  of note that Megan is building on her under 16 title earlier this month with a final and maybe more in Aldershot J200 - definitely worth a narrative upgrade later in the week once the event is completed

Just a couple of days left, looking at todays action, we have singles reps left in Oli and Blu over in events in the States, and then in doubles it looks like Lissey, Ben J, Matt S and Blu again - I think Jay also is still in?

Some of our wheelchair players - Lucy S and Greg S - going well in Japan and I havent looked at juniors but Megan and Ben G-W did well in Aldershot, backing up good performances in the Nationals (Ben was RU in Nationals U18, W in Aldershot, Megan is already on our list)

Putting Madrid aside for now and in this thread as it is a finish next weekend and thus in our May counting events.

If any of the above or no doubt others I have missed catch your eye for a PoM nomination, there are roughly 2 days left with which to nominate.

13. Luke Johnson - for winning his first ATP 500 title in Barcelona (with Sander Arends) and reaching a new career high of 40.

14. Charlie Robertson - playing clutch tennis in the run to the end of the season after a difficult start to his college career. Won his match in the regular season title decider against NC State that was the winning point to clinch the title for Wake Forest. And was the only one of his side to win a first set in the ACC Championships semi-final. Winning his last 8 completed singles matches and is 13-1 in doubles, he has won the Atlantic Coast Conference (regarded as the strongest men's conference this year) Freshman of the week twice this month. Ranked ITA 125 in singles and 6 (with DK Suresh) and 25 (with Dostanic) in doubles. Also voted to the ACC All-Conference 1st Team for doubles.

15. Alicia Dudeney - for a very strong end to her college career (probably the end), finishing on an 11 match win streak in singles, which is no mean feat in the loaded women's Southeastern conference. She did this in the context of Florida women's programme having their most difficult season ever with multiple injuries and a short roster. When the rest of her team were struggling she led by example being relied upon to win her matches. Ranked 53 in singles (after being outside the top 125 at the beginning of March) and 13 and 22 in doubles she has been voted to receive SEC All-Conference 1st Team honours.

I won't nominate them because it is after all a Player of the month vote, but honourable mentions go to Oliver Tarvet and Sofia Johnson for being awarded Player of the Year in their respective conferences for the 2nd year running.
