RE: Week 14 - WTA 250 - Bogota, Colombia (outdoor clay)

Firstly, get well soon Fran.

But....

I am absolutely appalled that the umpire didn't stop the match and called the doctor out of a duty of care. She was clearly having dizzy spells, couldn't walk straight and having difficulty breathing.

If that was a boxing match, the referee would not have allowed her to continue.

Yes, I agree

Shocking

I mean, how much 'ill-er' do you have to be ?

He didn't even seem to talk to her about it, which would have been the very minimum

Just saw the video and it was distressing.

There is a fair bit of stuff going round on X about Fran and her retirements, 19 in total, and not all complimentary or sympathetic. It looks like a fair number of gamblers are having a real go at her, comparing her with Tsurenko etc - even the Tennis Talker, Chris Goldsmith has a little dig.

Which is all clearly very unfair on Fran and not needed, I hope she doesnt "do" social media.

One thing that did strike me is that she plays Colombia quite a lot - presumably she doesnt have heath issues related to altitude with the medical conditions she suffers from, she would presumably have that well covered off as a thing?

Fran has posted with some further background and information on her Instagram. Long story short, nothing serious or to worry about, fortunately. Just a combination of things that came together in a bad way on court (tiredness from previous week, lack of time to acclimatise to conditions etc...).

They went 0-4* down in the second, got the breaks back and then dropped serve again for 3-5*. Into a MTB and the WTA scoreboard has frozen on me, so over to Bet365.
