Week 14 - WTA 500 - Charleston, SC, USA (outdoor clay)

Heather loses the tiebreak 10-8

Had one more set point but was a little passive on it and Shymanovich slotted a winner away down the line.

Couldn't help thinking that hev was just slightly the better player for most of that set though cry

Irritatingly tennis - like several other sports - doesn't reward the better player, it rewards the player that wins the right points!

Yes I thought so too. Wouldn't have taken much for this to have gone the other way. Shymanovich was able to get a couple of big strikes in at big moments which made the difference when it got tight I think. Second set she always looked the likely winner.

Heather is broken courtesy of a dead net cord return off a good first serve that lands on the line. Which is the moment you think maybe the tennis gods aren't for you today. But credit to her she digs in and breaks back for *4-5.

Unfortunately she makes some really poor decisions and is swiftly broken to 15 and loses 6-7(8) 4-6

Big opportunity missed unfortunately, given she's not going to be playing many 500 Main Draws this year and certainly not against a player outside the top 200. And disappointing not to build on last week.

No need for me to pile on, but an unexpected wild card and rare draw at this level. Curious as to how the next few months pan out for Heather and her plans going forward.

Too passive on both wings, and her second serve seems more vulnerable than it used to.

Not sure what the future holds, she clearly loves playing and the lifestyle so I'd love to see her focus on dubs and play singles when she can.

Second set 1-6 - but they failed to take 4 break points. MTB mindset being engaged in bathroom break wink
