QF:  Ben Jones WR 661 defeated (6) Alessandro Pecci (ITA) WR 460 by 7-6(5) 4-6 6-3  biggrin

He'll probably have to play the local top seed, Stricker, in the SF.

Good stuff from Ben.

Clearly been more successful over the years in doubles but he is going to rise to a new singles CH - live ranked 618 against his CH 649 from last November.

More "good stuff" from Ben in the doubles, but more in line with his pedigree there:

SF:  (2) Ben Jones & David Poljak (CZE) CR 515 (218+297) defeated Tim Händel & Max Wiskandt (GER/GER) CR 1398 (506+892) by 1 & 2

Just to go on record, Greg R drives me bananas when I'm courtside for a match of Ben's

BUT he's done a great job - Ben's singles and doubles have really come on leaps and bounds

So, all credit to him

I also think it shows the importance of a coach that fits the game style - Greg is 100% a serve guy - he was as a player - whenever he commentates, he focuses primarily on the serve, and volley - and his coaching from the stands is very much based on serve (and irritatingly upbeat cheers ) - in that way, he's maybe a one-trick pony - but it's obviously a huge thing in men's tennis, for some players in particular, and so he's a great fit with Ben, who is a tall, slightly gangly guy, with a big serve - rather like Greg, indeed

And so it came to pass:

SF:  (WC/1) Dominic Stricker (SUI) WR 284 (CH = 88 in October 2023) vs Ben Jones WR 661  bleh
