And zero chance of the Slams agreeing to a tour event hosting the finale of one of their championships.
No I know - I did say it had no chance!
Not to say it isnt a good idea though!
I do think it could be fun, but no room for an additional event in a crowded calendar. For me, making sure that fans can get to see the event (as Roland Garros are doing) is an important step. I don't think the solution is the quasi-exhibition as the US Open are doing. Reduce the draw to 16, start later and allow players to enter later if you want to go down that route.
I totally agree with others on here that Emma must have been affected still by the stalking incident. Unless it has happened to you then you cannot know how that makes a person feel. I don't believe for a single second that she would not have had him on her mind and wondering if he was suddenly going to just pop up in the crowd. Anyway it was a bad result for her. I really wish she would enter qualies and more 250 events. Anything to get on a roll.
Perhaps; maybe quite likely
But there's no 'must' about it
It's perfectly possible that she just played a bad match, it happens, rather too often for comfort, too, both pre and post the stalker
Probably at least effected her prep to a fair degree, in that apparently she went back home after Dubai, stayed there for a fair time, and it was a latish decision to even travel to IW.
Oh, for her just to have a really settled few months and work on getting her tennis rather better again.
I think one positive - and not tongue in cheek - is that the new man can take over after an awful match
Which means- hopefully- there will be an uptick (as it cannot be worse) which will get them going in the right direction and also Emma may listen to him, because she'll realise she has to
Emma does not play well in windy conditions I seem to remember her losing before in gusty conditions. She did look rather frustrated towards the end. She can usually rely on her serve to get her out of trouble but not when she has to adjust as the ball moves around after the ball toss. The commentators kept remarking on the movement of the ball from a side wind as it crossed the net.
Yeah much better and cleaner tennis in the last 20 minutes. But despite Begu totally losing control of her ball toss and hitting back to back doubles, Katie lets the Romanian off the hook, missing a break point she probably should have taken.
Saves a set point at *4-5 and gets to the tiebreak. Starts it with a screaming return winner down the line, and then can't find the court.
Horror end to a set she did very well to come right back into. Frustrating.
6-7(2) *0-0
Very capable of winning these next two sets comfortably now she's playing better, but tricky ask on her first match back and any drop off and Begu is going to run away with it.
