It does not look as if Emma wants to win. She is tentative but manages to hit her shots wide.
Yes. This is not impressive. I thought the prospect of a 'big time' match up with Coco in the next round might galvanise Emma but it doesn't seem to be inspiring her at all.
The match might turn around. It is tennis. But I don't think that I have the faith to invest the time to watch the rest of it.

Good night.
Both a bit unfair I think. The windy conditions are frankly ridiculous. Basically Uchijima is playing pretty well and playing all the big points better. Emma's game is being exposed as pretty powder puff though and she is basically being out hit. Not enough pace, angles or depth.
Emma really needs to have a think about what she wants to do and for me needs to drop down to the 125 level to try and get some wins and some time on court. Sobering at the moment.
Pretty much tanked the last two games. Made absolutely no effort losing them both to love. Looked totally disinterested for most of the match and never threatened seriously to make a contest of it. Very straightforward for Uchijima who did her job well in tricky windy conditions.
Emma looked very flat, very slow, and other than a few lovely points here and there was very disappointing. Hopefully Miami suits a little better.

Emma had an excellent draw against a player who hasn't won back to back main draw matches all year and has absolutely no pedigree at this level. If you are getting outhit on a slow hard court in windy conditions by Uchijima who is not exactly renowned for firepower, then it's not the luck of the draw that's the issue.
I wonder how much Emma's issue with the stalker is still affecting her. It isn't necessarily something you get over instantly and it may mean she isn't in a happy, positive head space right now.
Any kind of traumatic event takes time to get over, and from what Emma said about crying while trying to play, it made her feel really bad.
I'd say she needs a bit of support right now; hopefully if the individual who has been bothering her does not attend the tournaments she is playing at, then pretty soon she will he happier and more competitive. She did look really bad tonight - but it really needs to be seen in the context of what has happened to her recently.

I agree to an extent. But she's hardly going to go looking on forums for support so I don't think people should stop posting. And some people just seem to have one thing after another happen to them - if it's not long term injury, it's a fluke injury. If it's a bad day in the office, but there's also a stalker. And then there is the constant coaching changes, and the absolute refusal in some people's eyes to ever ever drop down a level, however small.
