F:- Tereza Mihalikova (SVK) / Olivia Nicholls (GBR) CR90 (48+42) v Asia Muhammad (USA) / Demi Schuurs (NED) CR41 (10+31)
Asia and Demi put out the top seeds Siniakova and Townsend in a MTB. It appears to be a new partnership starting in October.
Tereza and Liv beat Asia (with Pegula) in Beijing and there have been occasional meetings of one or other over the last year.
Bet365 have Asia/Demi at 1.44 and Lev and Tereza at 2.62. Might just put on my winnings from the last two rounds.
I tried to look up when was the last time we had a women's doubles player ranked 30 or under ?
Gosh! Good question. Would that be back in the days of Anne Hobbs and Jo Durie?
I think it would be Durie and Hobbs who were an outstanding doubles pair and both went on to forge other successful partnerships. A totally different era for doubles with most players serving and volleying.

Indeed, Anne and Jo both reached the top 10; Anne played a lot with Wendy Turnbull, as well as others, after Jo and Jo played with Anne Kiyomura among others. Anne actually reached 6 in the world.
Such a great result. I watched the highlights and there was some cracking play there. Zhang and Hsieh are a seriously top quality pairing. Any thoughts on what has clicked for Liv? Here she is in a WTA1000 final but Lissey is languishing in the 200s of the rankings. How have they gone in such different directions?

If you look back a couple of years ago, there were several of us saying that Liv should split from Lissey. It sounds nasty but the problem always was that Lissey's game, for doubles, is fine, but it's nothing special. She has more of a singles game. Her serve and groundshots provided a good foil for Liv's net play. But a lot of players have a decent serve and groundshots.
Liv's game, on the other hand, always had some real stand-out net skills and doubles understanding. It lacked quite a lot of other things (the singles basics, really), which she's worked on. But her doubles basics made her stand out from the crowd in terms of potential.
Yes, Liv's all-round game has noticeably improved from a couple of years ago. She is now winning quite a lot of points on serve and is holding her own in those cross-court rallies that seem to form so much of the current game. And of course, she has a good partner now and they compliment each other.

Note that Demi Schuurs overtook Liv in the live rankings when she secured her place in the final. Demi is currently live ranked 28, Liv 31. Liv though will re-overtake and be WR 28 on Monday if the girls take the title.
650 points ( so far ) here certainly is a huge best points haul for Liv, taking over from her 2 WTA 250 titles ( 280 points with Lissey Barnett in 2022 and 250 points with Olivia Gadecki in 2024 ).
The singles SFs ( Sabalenka vs Keys and Andreeva vs Swiatek ) feature the top 4 players in the WTA Race coming into IW and they will clearly now stretch further ahead.
A really good SF line-up in other ways with it being the big 2, the Aus Open champion continuing to produce, and the star kid.
With also almost all the top 10 reaching the L16 it has been a great tournament for these seeking consistency and narrative from the women. And just made all the better by the L16 presence of a LL who has soared into the top 100 in the last year.
