Weeks 10&11 - WTA1000 - Indian Wells, USA Hard

Sheer will to win had a lot to do with this result. Sonay's into the last 16. I hope Emma Raducanu feels embarrassed by her abject first round non-performance as she watches this at home.

Well done Sonay. No histrionics, job to do and got it done! I wouldnt agree that Sonay is an introvert, her socials suggest otherwise, I just think she is a private person and only gives us glimpses of her private life, unlike Emma where at times it was every days events. From a marketing perspective however Emmas content is usually excellent although she has been pretty quiet recently.

Excellent viewing

So focused. And seemingly relaxed.

What a fantastic attitude Sonay has. She works very hard, and is so calm and focused on her job, and does not get distracted. There are several other british women who would benefit from taking a leaf from her book. I can think of four straight away and they're all in the top 6 british women players (and they're not Fran, who has a similar work attitude)

Amazing!

When I first started following GB tennis around 2008, the idea we'd have a stronger no. 3 than France, Spain, Italy and Germany would've been absurd. But here we are :)

Great win by Sonay smile

Sonay has played Polina before - Wimbledon junior dubs 2019, and finally got revenge biggrin

When Sonay played at  Wimbledon last year her ranking was 298 so  fantastic progress up the  rankings since then.

Sonay is playing Sabalenka next, so I guess that unless Sabalenka goes down with an injury or something that that will be it for Sonay, but it feels like a breakthrough to me, and 63 in LR, a new career high.
I just hope that she can enjoy the match and get to play on a show court.

A shame people can't praise Sonay without attacking the only female GS winner we've had in the past fifty years, especially after the horrible experience she's just been through.
