Good luck to both. Hoping they can get some momentum going this week.

Emma hitting with Tommy Haas at Indian Wells the other day. Suspect the tournament director has a bit of time on his hands!

Jodie struggling against a tricky opponent.

Just been broken from *40-0 to open the second set and it's at risk of spiralling quickly.

3-6 *0-2

Terrible serving day, and everything else was about as bad.

Just one of those days at the office sadly.

Only caught a little bit of the match - the court looked very slow to me - and Jodie's serve nowhere to be found.

Her serve did indeed appear a bit problematic from the stats I see.

34% first serves in and 9 points in total won on first serve!!

You're totally on the backfoot with serve stats like that.

And slow courts don't stop your first serve landing in that box.

Yes, I was aware - I just thought it seemed even slower than usual ! But then after Doha, Dubai and Austin I suppose it was inevitable to think this.

Sonay's opponent looks a potential banana skin - already WR 114 at the age of 20 with a recent win over Cirstea to her credit....

Marina Stakusic won the Billie Jean King Cup for Canada in 2023 when, along with Leylah Fernndez, they beat Italy in the final.
