Week 9 - WTA500 - Merida Mexico - Hard

Set apiece.

6-3 3-6

Proving closely matched in their 2 matches. Let's have a Fran win this time.

Watched the first two sets on and off. Anyone know what the problem was with Fran this time? It was quite an interesting if not very good quality match which i really thought Fran could win.

Overall a pretty weak WTA500. Some good points to be got with most of the top players missing.

Tbf Fran has collected a rather useful 85 points for qualifying and a R1 win and while yes relatively week for a WTA 500, all 8 seeds ( that became 7 ) are still top 30.

Yes, pity she couldn't make the QF ( and a further 48 points ) with no seed left in her section and then such a R2 draw.

But it's still going to be a big new CH for Fran with her now live ranked 123 as against her existing WR / CH 136. And I am very relieved to read that the issue was just cramp, as awful as that can be at the time.

Fran seems particularly susceptible to cramping up in three set matches, i'm not sure there's much she can do about it.no

Full credit to Fran who despite any setbacks always gives 100% of herself. If ever there was a player I am willing to reach the world's Top 100 it is this young lady.
Told years a go it would never happen and she continues to prove those people wrong. Inspiration.
