Week 9 - WTA250 - ATX Open, Austin, USA - Hard

It's still very close, she's just not winning the important points sadly. Missed break points and had game points to stay in touch but now

0-3*

Jodie is very much a rhythm and confidence player.
Let's hope this win kicks her on.

Markedly better though at maintaing rhythm and confidence in the last year or so when facing setbacks. She rarely crumbles and goes away like she regularly used to.

Thats exactly whats happening unfortunatel. Jodie showing no patience whatsoever

Alja's got a wealth of experience at this level, way more than Jodie, so not surprised she managed to find a way through.

Decent couple of matches for her. Would be great if she's able to qualify for either IW or Miami.

I didn't see the match but did see the scoreline, and thought of that post

BTW, Tara's doubles should be starting around 10:30 UK time, and Eden/Madeleine v Jodie second match after midnight.
Hope Jodie isn't carrying an injury - tape on her upper right arm and shoulder.

Jodie and partner have withdrawn from the doubles

Giving Eden & Maddie the win

So, yes, presumably that's Jodie and it's an injury problem

It's listed on the draw as shoulder injury.

So, for those who saw the match, on reflection, as she subsequently withdrew from the doubles with a shoulder injury, do you feel it was a lack of patience, or the need to go for her shots early in the rally as she could maybe feel the niggle?

Yes that would make sense her shoulder was heavily strapped and she was trying to end the points as quickly as possible after the first set. I did notice Jodie lose her temper after one of her first double faults early in the 2nd set though and hoping it wasnt a change in her mindset

Right from the start she had a large plaster on the top of her arm and another on the back of her shoulder.

I wonder if that was the point when she went from knowing she was carrying an injury but could play to knowing she was going to struggle and needed to get off court quickly. I think most of us would lose our composure if we had a sudden stab of pain and knew what it meant.

It's still very disappointing, though, as Jodie has been doing a good job on court recently.

Yes, I really do hope it's nothing that's going to prove too serious with what she has gone through before and then come back so well.
