Week 8 - WTA1000 - Dubai Hard

Back on serve at *4-5. Emma is ahead on points 25-23 so it is close.

Very unlucky. This is the best I have seen her play in a long while

Did very well to drag herself into the set, saved set points at *5-6 and led *5-2 in the breaker. Set point of her own at 6-5* and loses it 6-8.

A much more encouraging approach to the match overall for me though. Better stuff.

I thought it was 5-2* in the tiebreak - one mini-break, but anyway, it was pretty close. She's missed quite a few first serves by inches

Yes sorry I had the star in the wrong place. It was 5-2* to *5-5.

R2/L32:- Emma Raducanu (GBR) WR60 lost to Karolina Muchova (CZE) WR17 [14] (6)6-7 4-6

Emma won one point more - but not the right ones. Muchova serving very well in the second set.

Gauff went out to Kessler, so good chance for Muchova now.

Today was more like it. At times she looked like she belonged in the top 25. If she had more match sharpness I think she would have won

It was a good match and could have gone either way. It ended with 79 points to Emma and 78 to Karolina. I wonder what upset Emma after the 2nd game of the match, it's not often you see Emma in tears. I wondered if someone in the crowd had said something that upset her.

Some rumours about an individual in the crowd who shouldn't have been there. But will see if we get any confirmation.

Only thing for me was she didn't seem to full grasp just how badly Muchova's backhand had broken down. But overall a much better performance and if she's playing like that in the smaller events she should start racking up the wins quite quickly.

Sounds pretty encouraging from following the score ( with as said even the early games close ) and reading here. I was out and about but all set to watch a third set if we had got one.

Hope she can build further next week. Pity about that early issue, whatever it was.

Hope she is OK. Damn press have it everywhere, must be hard for Emma, that said she played a good match and she must be able to take some positives from that.

If what I am reading is true, Emma did remarkably well to play this match so well

Is this the guy who was there?

www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/feb/23/emma-raducanu-stalker-five-year-restraining-order-tennis-star

If it is, he needs jailing and quickly. If not, Emma needs to be watched over as there are lots of nutters out there
