I think this list shows very clearly what a great bunch of players we have, especially when you consider that the likes of Jack, Billy and others didn't even make it!! They are all my favourites and I could vote for any one of them. I did vote tactically in previous rounds but in the final I have to try and work out who is the best of the best - and I voted for Fran. She is truly an inspiration and never gives less 100%.
Voted for Jake, as having only recently finished us college what he has done is fantastic!
My previous comment was more if say you were quite undecided between say Fran, Katie and Emma, or whoever, but weren't that bothered about the men's tennis you might be swayed by which woman took an early lead. In practice probably an advantage for Jake, and Henry, to be only men in the final, and Jake the only smale singles player.
Very difficult, I admire all of those players, but if I were at a tournament, and for arguments sake they were all playing at the same time, it would still be Emmas match that I would sneak in to watch somehow ..
I like that method and would probably agree with you - Emma still has a love/hate attraction that draws me to her, whatever the others are doing
But I decided long ago in these competitions to vote for the player whose match I'd seen live that year and still remembered as being a real favourite (if no match stands out in my memory, then I move to plan B)
Which leads to some pretty esoteric picks early on. And narrows the field now because I often don't get to see the absolute top players play live.
However, this time it was easy as Emily Appleton's win over Linda Fruh was a highlight of my live tennis last year Super match, super win, lovely day at Surbiton - she got the vote
Ah, I have a soft spot for Emily also, I have a nice snap of her I took live at Wimbledon when she was playing in Junior doubles and was airborne at the time! I never got to Surbiton, I would have enjoyed the match you saw for sure.
Really struggled to choose this time and changed my vote in the final. Have gone for Jake for his inspirational year including his Davis Cup début. Someone I will happily choose to watch this year. Could have voted for Fran as I admire her tenacity to keep going with her obvious disadvantages or for Sonay who has quietly risen to top 100 with little fuss after her challenging start to 2024. Surprised Jack isnt in this final but guess his start/stop year may have influenced this.
33 votes now and we are halfway in terms of time. I hope theres a reasonably good haul to come tomorrow, Id love to get into the 50s again if we can so please do vote.
And if you do vote , please tell us like the folks above as it does help!
Ps I got dragged to see the latest Bridget Jones film tonight; I hate Bridget Jones. Sorry, I do - but not this film, this latest film is marvellous , I recommend it. I cried and laughed in equal measures. Hugh Grant is brilliant doing what he does, as always, almost as good as in Paddington 2; and the rest of the cast is spot on. Well done to the Bridget Jones team. I now like Bridget Jones, haha.
And I loved it because Im in a pretty bad place in my life right now, at work and wider. And it made me realise theres always a new tomorrow. It gave me hope.
So Jake has a decent gap; not sure if anyone can close it, it wont be easy, needs a lot of support for Fran or Katie on day 2; Id reckon the rest are out of it in terms of the title, maybe for a podium place though?
