Week 7 - ITF M25 - Roehampton, Great Britain (indoor hard)

Good stuff by Liam.

And nice of him to go that early break down in the third, leading to rather tempting in-match odds against him ( 12/5 )

I missed the subsequent comings and goings.

That's one of the remaining three peskies disposed of!  smile

Make that two - eventually (he served for it at 5-4 in the second & went a break down early in the decider, then again towards the end):

QF:  (WC) Liam Broady WR 770 defeated Keegan Smith (USA) WR 554 by 6-4 6-7(8) 7-5  biggrin

A hard-fought scrap which lasted for nearly three hours!

And the final pesky bites the dust:

QF:  (6) Anton Matusevich WR 421 defeated Lucas Poullain (FRA) WR 438 by 5 & 3  smile

*****

SF:  Arthur Féry WR 580 vs (6) Anton Matusevich WR 421

And George completes the clean sweep of Brits in the semis:

While it is good to see the other 3 having good weeks and I hope that they continue to move up the rankings in the weeks and months to come, in this particular week I'd like to see Liam prevail. I think it wouid be a boost he really needs.

Had a really good day at Roehampton today and was so great to see some high quality tennis in person. There was a real buzz of activity whether that be from coaches, players and family/friends. All the matches were very exciting and its great to see 4 Brits in to the singles semi finals. Liam did well to turn his match around in a very close encounter which I congratulated him for. Ben Jones had Greg Rusedski in his corner. Saw lots of other players wandering around, enjoying watching the matches/had already trained before I arrived (Harriet, Armani, Eden, Mimi, Mika) and some Brits practicing (Hannah on the proper clay courts with Ben Haran, Oli and Mark on indoor courts with their coaches). The whole complex is so modern and state of the art and the canteen and food was top notch. All in all just a great day out and would highly recommend. :)

So glad you had a good time - I agree, a super day out - and free !!!!

And - thanks - I thought it was Eden I saw from afar on Thursday but wasn't A1 sure - so I'm guessing it was :) I definitely didn't see Mika or Mimi though ...

I was wondering what was happening here but I can't get into the ITF site at all this morning. Anyone else having problems?

It isn't the ITF site that is down - it's internet problems elsewhere. I found that I couldn't access the site and some others using a BTinternet connection, but using my backup connection everything worked OK. I think it must be a problem with a DNS server (or 20)

Mine's been down all morning too but livestreams have suddenly reappeared on bet365

I'm watching more of George v Liam, as it's a closer match

But keeping an eye on Anton and Arthur too

For those with no access:

Anton is hitting some good heavy ball, as usual, but Arthur is closer to his line, abelt to absorb and redirect the pace, very solid, makes you very confident that he can play 90% rallies and either force the error or suddenly step in on the shorter ball and punch through it early, and take Anton by surprise

George v Liam is far closer. George has the heavier weight of shot. And the bigger serve. But he does make some unfortunate UEs, and stands a long way back, Liam is able to sneak into the net at times, and finish the point with easy vollleys, or step into the ball, also using his leftiness well, as usual. A few too many wild shots off Liam's racket too though
