I had a look at Josh Paris wiki page and see he is originally from Highgate. It says he was in the British team in the 2013 Maccabiah Games, something Id never heard of. Turns out they are a sort of Olympics for the global Jewish community of all nations and Israelis of whichever faith.
Id never heard of them before and there is little internet info - anyone else familiar with them and any other players we have fielded in tennis at them? Or tennis players from other countries that are known names and have played them.
I wonder if there is an argument that you should concede a SF if you already know you will not play in the final, and allow a proper final to take place?

By that logic (with which I don't disagree), one should probably not start the competition if one knows that they will not play the final, to allow every round to be proper.

For money tournaments in France, the referee has the right to 're-fish' the losers, from QF stage upwards, if there's a withdrawal, to give the spectators a proper final (and proper semifinal), as you say
