As well as qualifying through being in the top 2 of PoM votes, or winning slams, there are two other routes into the PoS field. One is to get a wild card, but that is a long way off and several months of PoM votes to come, as well as the USO.
The other is to be British Number one in any of mens/womens singles, mens/womens doubles, junior boyys/girls, or mens/womens/quad wheelchair singles - assuming they aren't qualified through one of the other means above, which many will be.
At this stage, the leading lights in each category are:
Mens singles - Jack D (he is qualified for PoS already). Seems unlikely anyone will catch him by season end
Womens singles - Emma is now live #1 - neither her or Katie are qualified for PoS; Sonay and Fran may be the other challengers and both are qualified for number one.
Mens doubles - Lloyd is top with Julian, Henry and maybe even Neal in with a shout (depends on USO for Neal?) by season end. More on Lloyd below
Womens doubles - Liv leads this and is qualified. I cannot see anyone usurping Liv, others may tell me that is presumptious!?
Junior Boys - Oli Bonding leads this and is qualified. Again, don't expect anyone can catch Oli? Again, may be wrong?
Junior Girls - Hannah leads this and is not qualified. She has also reached two slam finals this season in juniors. I am not sure if realistically Mika or Mimi can or will catch her for top junior girl?
Wheelchair mens - Alfie has this in the bag already and is qualified
Wheelchair womens - Lucy leads this and is in a tussle with Cornelia, although she has opened the gap a little since a few weeks back. Neither are qualified
Wheelchair quad - Andy Lapthorne leads this and is qualified; Greg Slade is pushing but I doubt will catch him by year end, barring some amazing results
So, Emma/Katie, Lloyd**, Hannah, Lucy seem to be the ones in number one slots not currently qualified
** Lloyd - he is actually qualified as part of the pair with Julian. But Lloyd stands ahead, just, as number one. I will need to make a call whether Lloyd gets a place in his own right as well as part of the pair with Julian. Not sure yet, happy to take thoughts on that from others - Alfie is of course in with Gordon as a pair and in his own right but his case is different as he has a very clear record on his own and as a pair and so it makes sense. In Lloyds case, his individual recrod is less clear cut/non existent to get him in on his own as well.
As people know, there is a wild card vote that takes place to let us vote on those players who havent qualified directly for Player of the Season and decide who may merit a place alongside the qualifiers.
We nominate players to be in the wild card vote - this year that nomination process will be between XMas and New Year. There will be no limit on the number of wildcard vote nominations in total or on those nominated by anyone person.
I plan to nominate a couple of players based on two criteria (obviously we won't know who they are until December!).
The player not qualified for PoS who has the most PoM nominations over the season and, secondly, the player with the most titles won over the year as recorded in Indy's brilliant title tracking thread.
At this stage the top few in each list are (and I may have made errors so stand to be corrected)
Pom Nominations: at the moment, Cam and Jake F have the most nominations of those not qualified yet for PoS, so they would stand to be in the wild card vote

Title wins - at the moment, Hamish is top and not qualified, so he would stand to get into that wildcard vote as well. Indy may be able to correct some of the title wins numbers as I don't necessarily get it right!!

With the last major of the season around the corner, a reminder that winners of titles in the mens/womens singles and doubles, mixed doubles, boys and girls singles and doubles, wheelchair mens/womens/quad singles and doubles all get into player of the season if they win.
The mixed doubles, despite the format changes and not including it on the wins prediction contest, is still officially the US Open Mixed Doubles and carries the same title as the other majors, whatever we all think individually. Whether Jack and Emma (or anyone else) still play in it or win it is a) to be determine and b) probably unlikely - but nonetheless, it does count in this context.
With 14 qualifiers so far, and most of the number one ranking positions taken by players already qualified, we are looking at a final player of the season list of well short of the usual 28 this season, although wild cards will probably be awarded through the wild card vote to round us out at 28 contenders.
Following the respective battles for number one year end rankings will become particularly interesting - for the main 4 (mens and womens singles and doubles) the year end number one will be determined as the ATP and WTA seasons end in early November, if not before, and similarly the wheelchair battles in mens and womens and quad singles.
The two junior categories could stretch longer depending on the outcomes of the US Open and maybe through to the Orange Bowl?
Ill call the year end number ones as it becomes clear who they will be - one or two spots may be obviously sorted out post the US Open.
Whatever happens, we are now 2/3rds of the way through the calendar year, with 8 of the 12 PoM votes completed. Our voting numbers have historically been more in the autumn and winter months with fewer holiday distractions, so lets hope for a more inspiring month in September and beyond than August provided!
The current situation for number ones though doesnt provide too many close battles:
Mens singles - cant see Jack being topped (already qualified for PoS)
Womens singles - with Emma over double the points of the other rivals in the Race, hard to see her being topped now. Emma isnt in the PoS field yet
Mens doubles - Lloyd leads; Julian cant catch him but the US Open will tell us of Henry, Neal or Joe have a chance - Lloyd qualifying as an individual is a call to be made nearer the end of season
Womens doubles - Liv looks like this is probably sewn up - unless a surprise US Open run gets in the way from someone else. Liv is already qualified for PoS
Mens wheelchair - Alfie has this sewn up unless Gordon wins the US Open and even then. Alfie is qualified for PoS already
Womens wheelchair - Lucy was being chased by Cornelia, but seems to have staved her off and is the only Brit in the US Open. I think Cornelias chance has possibly gone. Lucy isnt yet in PoS through other means
Quad wheelchair - Andy is far enough ahead of Greg that Greg will need a very strong US run and season end. Andy is already in PoS for his AO exploits earlier this year
Boys - Oli looks securely ahead unless for some reason he comes out of the year end rankings - Ill call it post Orange Bowl. Oli is already in PoS
Girls - Hannah leads and with Mimi seeming to be stopping juniors, I guess it is just Mika that can catch Hannah - Mika probably needs to repeat her US Open win and then some though. Hannah isnt in PoS yet.
So not many close battles and from the above, we are looking at Emma, Lloyd (decision to be made), Lucy and Hannah as being players who could make PoS slots through year end number one finishes, that arent already qualified.
Wrt Lloyd - Im wrestling with the fact the year end number one qualifies for PoS. In the past, eg Henry last year, this hasnt mattered as their partner has been non British. Lloyd and Julian are already in as a pair; but Lloyd looks like he will be British number one on his own due to a few weeks of injury to Julian. If he achieves that, does Lloyd get in as doubles number one and separately from Julian and Lloyd as a pair.
Im not decided to be honest. And probably need to make a call in the next few months as it looks like it will be a decision needing making.
Alfie is in on his own but that is because he qualifies as a singles player and is clearly defined as different , from that perspective, than Alfie and Gordon as a pairing.
Maybe Lloyd and Lloyd/Julian isnt actually that different? Any views welcomed, as always!
At this stage I'd say just Lloyd/Julian. Great that Lloyd is WR 1 but he is really just clear of Julian due to Julian missing a few weeks ( and tbf him still winning matches ) and to me this year they come as a pair. I think also having Lloyd by himself would complicate things a bit.

Yeah, it is sort of where my head is at, tbh. But let's see where it stands in a couple of months if a) Henry doesnt chase Lloyd down at #1, which could happen, possibly and b) Lloyd and Julian may split up and go separate ways - I see USO glory, massive splits and Lloyd and Harri getting back together again (joke!)
As we have now finished the August PoM period, a quick update on the nominations and titles lists:
PoM nominations to date (after 8 of 12 months) - given there are 4 months left, realistically, only those players on 3 or more nominations at this point can top the list: at this stage, Cam and Jake are the top players not already in the PoS qualifiers list

In terms of titles, closed up at the top this month: Hamish is still top of the list but Ben, Daphne, Julian and Lloyd all closed the gap this month ( I count Julian and Lloyd as separate here although they are clearly a pair - they may win the odd title apart, for example the US Open mixed - oh, sorry, no...)

Cams nomination for September takes him to 4 in total. Clearly top of the non qualified players now.
