What is going on with Liam? He should be able to beat these players without breaking sweat.

I just wonder if he put so much effort and focus over 2 or 3 years to break into the Top 100, that having achieved that and then suffering injury, he hasn't got the motivation to fight the long road back.  Very difficult for him to set new personal goals having focused on and achieved what was his top goal for so long. What is left for him to realistically achieve ?

Only surmising here.

I also think for these players that it very much depends what else is going on, both socially and financially, and what their options are.

They need to earn a living, it's not just about achievements.

If Liam is focused on his personal relationship, for instance, it may well be difficult to focus on the hard road needed to get back into tennis

Equally, if he's been looking for other avenues to make money, and had found some interesting possibilities, even if not actually going for it right now, it will be difficult to get the focus needed on tennis.

(If, however, he can't see how he's going to make a bean outside of playing, then he's going to absolutely give it his all, no matter where he is)

Just looked at the point by point figures for Jomo vs Phoenix. Although Phoenix won 4 games on his own serve  he only won 1 point on Jomo's serve in the 2nd set.

A George vs JoMo final would do nicely.
