I wonder what we would all think if Emma had never won the US Open. Here we have a young woman still 22 years of age in the worlds top 60. She has been to the last 16 at Wimbledon and now the third round of the Australian Open. I think we would be happy to see where she is at and take that as success for British Tennis. I stayed up and watched the match against Iga. Iga was just solid and composed and missed nothing. Her shots were totally on. She hit all the lines and looked like she could go up another couple of gears. Tough result for Emma but she made the third round for the first time. We need a a fit healthy Raducanu playing a proper schedule to get matches in. I want to see her playing WTA 250's or even a few 125's to get stuck in. We know she has talent but unless she plays more she looks hampered to really fulfill her potential. I do feel the US Open win has become a millstone around her neck. She went from zero to hero and back again and the inbetween has not been how she or us would have liked. Look at Jacob fearnley and how he has won his way through the levels from the bottom and grounded out his wins to make the top 100. I would rather see Emma win a few ITF events than bow out in the first or second round of big events. Anything to get on a roll. Winning breeds the confidence.

Thats a very well made point and something I should take heed of. yes, I agree we would take that view.
The 2021 US Open happened. .An arguably good draw but heck it was still a great Slam title at 18 yo and we saw with our own eyes.
Too many folk to my mind yes take too much account of it in later judgement and expected too much especially in the first couple of years afterwards ( for which I almost gave her a free pass such was the change to her life ).
But on the other hand it is to my mind entirely reasonable still to recall that time in the overall picture, and feel that this was a player who still had room for a lot of improvement then, and it was, and continues to be, perfectly reasonable, to think ot her as a potential established top 20 player and serial Slam contender in the future.
Yes, without US Open 2021, she would look to be doing rather well. But no, you can't just take it totally out of consideration as to what she could / should achieve going forward.
She is not 'just' a 22 yo Brit getting some good results against top 30 players and herself in the top 60.
Personally, as I have said recently, with the fucus I have been seeing, not that soon but within a couple of years or so, I think she can be an established player in at least the top 20 and a serial title contender.

You been on the sauce, me old mucker, Indy ?
However, I agree - Emma won a Grand Slam - it's true that she's doing well. And true that she's doing especially well for someone who didn't win a Grand Slam. But she did win one. So her profile is not the same. It can't be ignored. Because if you ignore it, she's not the same player.
And it would appear that in fact you didn't quite as much agree with Rich as it maybe seemed 2 minutes after he posted
And I don't personally mean so much that you can't ignore the profile that US Open 2021 gave her, I actually tried to say I mean more the ability and future potential thst it showed.

Simon Briggs getting his facts wrong in the Sunday Telegraph writing that Emma defeated Iga at Junior Wimbledon 2018 for the loss of only 1 game. In fact Iga won both matches, This wrong fact gave an unfair impression about Emma.

I did respond quickly but im not guilty on responding to you! So didnt change my tune! CD was the one who jumped in and responded to you!
Sorry, my bad again. Time for a wee rest
Yep - mea culpa
And, sorry, Indy - I'd normally allow you time to correct it but it was Sunday afternoon and I thought the 'ouppe of ears' was funny and needed preserving
I remember saying shortly after Emma won the US Open that it would probably become a millstone round her neck for the next year at least. I also suggested that she was a momentum player, once she gets on a winning run there is no stopping her. Unfortunately both seemed to come true. As a Grand Slam winner she was restricted in the tournaments she could enter and apart from a few isolated tournaments, such as Wimbledon, has never really got a run going.
Coming back from injury it may have made sense to concentrate on fitness training with a few high level matches to see how she was progressing, without taking too many risks of further injury, but now it does look as if she would benefit from more matches with runs to the final, at whatever level of tournament that is achievable.
I see that the authorities have caved into CD's protestations and Iga's L16 match ( vs LL Eva Lys ) is scheduled for the Rod Laver Arena night session.
First on, at 7 pm local, so one would hope that she isn't kept up too late.

She'll be having a royal sulk - but, as you say, she's playing a LL - surely Iga can that done by 8.30, eat, shower and be in her PJs by 10 pm
