Ahead of Tim, Moodie (beating big Arv) and Mayer both won. Vik is knocked out. Only Moodie advances, as Mayer hasn't yet got more points than his 18th result.

Behind Tim, Marcos Daniel is looking increasingly threatening, getting 40 points for reaching the semis at the $90,000 Czech open, and now just two wins away from overtaking. HE's the last seed in his half of the draw, so a place in the final is likely

Simon Greul also won in Furth, reaching the quarter finals. He will also overtake if he wins the tournament. So pins for Simon too, please!

Simon Greul went out to fifth seed Thomas Behrend at Furth (he was second seed himself). So Tim is safe at 76th for another week

Meanwhile, above Tim, Both Florian Mayer at Furth and Wesley Moodie at Surbiton made the Semis, and move up some places to stretch the gap that Tim has to close.

Other interesting news from Challenger land: Dominik Hrbaty has made the final of the Czech open, but has not yet gained a single ranking point, as the 63 he gets are outweighed by his 18th result, a 75. I hope his home crowd appreciate the effort: that's a lot of tennis matches to go through for no rankings reward - almost as bad a qualifying for a futures and then going out in round 1

Queens Points: Tim needs to at least make the quarter finals at Queens, for it to have any effect on his ranking. His 18th result is a 25, and Round 3 at Queens only carries 20 points.

And Hrbaty loses the final against Hajek. So he's won four matche, and gained nothing in the world rankings. What's worse, I now realise, is that he's not Czech, but Slovak, and lost to a Czech in the final. I hope he got a lot of appearance money!

Moodie and Mayer both won their semi finals at Surbiton and Furth respectively, and go climbing into the top 70 as a result, putting 40 points between themselves and Tim.

Tim would need a semi- final place at Queens to overhaul them now

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the table, Mardy Fish won his semi at Surbiton, and climbs into the top 90 after his injury break. He's looking ominous, both for Jamie Baker at Queens, and for Tim's ranking.

Final update

Mayer won his final in Furth to advance to 69th 58 ahead of Tim. Moodie lost to Mardy Fish, who advances to 87th, just 59 behind Tim. He's looking ominous for both Jamie Baker and Tim's ranking. Go Jamie!
