Gahh! Benneteau finally converted his sixth break point in th third game.
2-1 Benneteau. All three games have gone against serve. Ljubicic's first serve seems to not be firing, while Benneteau seems to be doing much better at returning than serving.
That's it. 6-2, 6-2, 6-3. Very efficiently done! Also, Benneteau actually managed to hold serve three times that set!
Excellent pinmanship!
So that's Andy's ranking safe at 45 for this week. He has "free" points to gain at Queens next week, as the ones he's defending have already dropped off. Fingers crossed.
so andy got no points to defend at Queens, odd? so he will stay at 45 with the Queens points removed or not?
He'll be at 45 after the French Open results feed through on Monday.
Because everything is a week later this year than last year (I don't know why), his Queens points from last year drop off this week (or rather this fortnight, as R-G is a 2 week tournament).
So he was effectively defending last year's points from Queens(20) at Roland Garros, where he won 35 points. So I guess that's successfully defended, then!
Whether he stays at 45 by the end of Queens depends, of course, on his getting more points next week than the people who are breathing on his neck behind him, and than the people he's aiming to overtake ahead of him.
My table has had its final update for the week. Andy finishes the French Open at number 45 in the world, no change from last time which, all things considered, isn't too bad!
Hopefully he can get a good load of points under his belt at Queens as during Wimbledon he is defending 75 points for reaching the third round and any points from the week afterwards due to this shift in timing. Hoping for a couple of good draws please, and pins at the ready. Will let you know who to poke them into at the weekend!
