Table updated for the end of day 2. Andy is currently at 42 in the rankings. However, if he wins tomorrow he will gain at least 4 places in the table (by overtaking Greg, Malisse and Vliegen and Youzhny presuming he loses rd2). Pins into Chela (just above Andy), Simon, Santoro and Serra all of whom we despreately need to lose their rd1 matches. If Andy loses tomorrow then he could easily lose lots of places so lets hope that doesn't happen!
OK, all of the first round matches concerning Andy's competitors are over.
Once Andy had lost, of the three people who could overtake today, only Serra did so. This means that at the moment, Andy remains two places up in the rankings at number 43.
However, in rd2 both Mirnyi and Moya could ruin that.
Mirnyi plays Massu, who is seeded 32 here. There is a ranking difference of 14 places. Their head to head is 2-0 in Mirnyi's favour, however they have never played each other on clay.
Moya is playing Youzhny, Moya is seeded 30 and there is a 10 place ranking difference between the two. In the head to head Moya leads by 1-0 on clay but this was 4 years ago, in Hamburg.
These two are the only ones who could overtake Andy in rd2 but Gasquet could if he gets through round 3 (where he would meet either Henman or Tursunov, having just beaten Nalbandian).
After that Volandri is the next threat, but he must reach the quarters, going through Federer! Similarly, by reaching the quarters Karlovic, Djokovic, Sanguinetti, Martin and C Rochus can overtake but doing so would involve winning matches unexpectedly for all.
All in all, it could be a lot worse and the worst case scenario is (presuming no one lower reaches the semis) Andy finishing the week at 52. However the more likely event is him having no change or losing one or two places.

Moya & Youzhny are on court, and Moya has already won the first set Obviously pins are not enough & we need to start the psychological warfare!
Come on Mikhail, time to start playing! Now then Carlos, remember that you're past it! Your glory days on clay are gone. Time to pass on the baton to the new guard.
strange... the scoreboards lost their match for over an hour, amd now its 2-2.
Max, thanks for all your help seeing off competitors in the past, but now we ned you to lose. Remember, think of your doubles form. Don't get dragged into a long singles match, when there's a grand slam doubles trophy to be won........
Pins in Gasquet is the next most pressing thing please!
Wow, these pins are effective today. Unfortunately Moya's now pushed both Andy & Greg down a place, although Greg would have been down one whatever happened in the Moya Youzhny match, as both were poised to overtake today.
Andy's next worries are Ivo Karlovic, Alberto Martin, Novak Djokovic and Davide Sanguinetti, all of whom play tomorrow. However, all of them need to reach the quarters to overtake, and only two of them can actually make the quarters, as Sanguinetti and Martin would meet in the fourth round, as would Djokovic and Karlovic. As they've all got to get through rounds 2 and 3 first, we don't need to worry too much for another day or so.
Please put the pins into Djokovic Madeline, as he won't meet anyone very dangerous (depending on Blake and Almagro's form) until the quarters, by which time he'll have overtaken Andy. Karlovic is in the 8th below him so they wouldn't meet until the quarters, but Karlovic will play Nadal in the 4th round if he gets that far so... (don't let that stop the pins though!)
I will update my table etc tomorrow but have had a very busy day so don't think i'd get it right if I tried to do it now!
