The player of the season vote will take place in early January. Most of the contenders will come through the player of the month votes and other means, like winning a slam title or being British number one.
However, there will be wildcard places kept aside to allow players who have done good things, but havent yet qualified, to gain a place.
A wildcard vote will take place at the beginning of January- at that point we will know how many wildcards are up for grabs.
Between now and December 31st, wild card candidates can be nominated by putting them on the list below. There are a few rules:
1) Anyone who has already qualified for player of the season (list below) cant be nominated for a wildcard, obviously.
2) Any player subsequently qualifying through the November or December Player of the month votes who has been nominated for a wildcard, will be taken off the wildcard list as they wont need one!
3) there will be a maximum of 20 wildcard nominations in total- once the list reaches 20, the list closes. If the list does hit 20 but you still wish to nominate someone, they will become an alt - if a player does well in the December PoM vote and qualifies for PoS, they may come out of the wild card list and free up an alt space. There will be a maximum of 2 alternates for this reason (in case there are two December PoM qualifiers for Player of the Season!)
4) there are no limits on how many nominations one board member can make; but, each board member can only make one per day max - once youve made one, you need to wait to a later day to make another etc.
Thats it - I have a number id like to make and so will pop back later. Please dont be shy - nominate away and give the name and the reason. And remember, it can be a player, a team or a pair.

Heres the first nomination - Ive a few more for as the month progresses but hoping other people jump in before I get there!
Wildcard nomination and reason:
1 - Heather Watson - most nominated player for the player of the month who hasnt qualified - 7 times - and also won our favourite British player vote back in Feb. She must have done well this season to get so many nominations and be so popular!

2 - Paul Jubb - without having any really spectacular performances apart from reaching the semi final of the Mallorca ATP250, Paul has nevertheless consistently performed well over the year and raised his ranking from 793 at the end of last year to a career high of 180 by the end of November.
We'd discussed Paul recently and that he deserved a nomination. I think he rather suffered from being overshadowed by Jake F, who started in a similar place but really did knock it out of the park (repeatedly) this year.
For others - dont feel tempted too hold off nominating too long; once the 20 mark is hit, nominations close. If you have someone youre considering nominating, better to get them on here than keep watching what others do; I dont think this is a tactical process, although I might be wrong, so no need to err on the side of caution!

3 - Jodie Burrage - for sensibly entering end of season lower level tournaments after a long injury break and saving her PR for 2025. In doing so she has reached SFs at W35 and W50 level followed by the final of the W75 in Trnava thereby taking her ranking back into the top 250.

She must have done well this season to get so many nominations and be so popular! Seriously, she won a W50 title in Nottingham this season and is also our third best ranked doubles player

Before injury struck, Jodie made the QF of a WTA 500 in early season, a season of great promise was derailed but she has come back well

About 29 days left now - 17 places still available - I have maybe 5 other candidates IMO that I will drop feed in during the month, unless someone gets there first (and nominates one of those candidates - in which case good) or we reach the 20 nominees (in which case oh well!)
Don't be shy - anyone can nominate at any time in the month, just one nomination per board member on any single day though, please.
Nice call on Jodie, Super T! And at the start of the year, before she got injured, Jodie also made it to the QF of a WTA500, so she was definitely showing some great promise in the early season. Maybe we can update her nomination to reflect that.

Done.
As an aside, in the main Player of the season, I dont do narratives - just present facts (ranking change, win/loss, titles) and let people do their own research if they wish to!

Thanks for the update, Jon!
(And I checked what you did for PoS last year, because I was wondering if you needed to "crowdsource" narratives for that, but saw you were using stats -- much easier to compile! If people want to put a gloss on the stats, they can do that when they say who they're voting for. )
