If Em had withdrawn from Dubai before the freeze deadline, she'd have made it in here directly and been seeded. Instead has got her space as an on-site alternate.
I don't understand. I'm not aware of any rule that prevents an on site alt from being seeded, nor can I find anything in the rulebook to that effect. I could understand if she wasn't in the draw when it was made and she replaced someone that withdrew, but it's a 32 qualifying draw with plenty of vacancies (which also confuses me as to why she's marked as an alt).

For reasons I'm not sure of, based on the Factsheets both this week and last were 32 space qualy draws but always only taking 24 players (so the top 8 seeds being guaranteed byes).
I think the only reason that she is marked as an alt is that she wasn't on the acceptance list haveing been automatically withdrawn at the freeze.
No 2 seed in qualifying has been promoted to the main draw. The player that Friederike was originally due to play has been made the no 17 seed for qualifying and taken the place of the no 2 seed in the draw. An alternate (Emily) is now needed to play Friederike in the draw. All the top 8 seeds have a bye in qualifying (as per PaulMs comments)
