I was a bit worried when I saw she'd had a wobble at the start of the second set after breaking convincingly to win the first, so really pleased to see her bringing it home in two sets.
I haven't watched her play since her comeback, but I get the impression from the scores that she's got much better at raising her game at the end of sets and closing them out, and is having fewer mini meltdowns when the pressure is on or she gets annoyed and frustrated. If so, that's a welcome development! (I've probably jinxed her now, haven't I?)
Only saw the last 15 mins of that match - but, exactly as Tanaqui says, I've been pleased/impressed over the last couple of events that Jodie has kept her cool (pretty much) when things have looked a bit dicey - that second set from what I saw was very close, could have gone either way - and she kept to her plan, played good offensive tennis, kept moving, didn't back off
Yes, she was in trouble in the second set with frustration starting to show, but settled down. Saving break points at *0-2 was crucial, especially as her second serves were coming back with interest. In the end it was Amandine that felt the pressure and played a poor final game.
To be fair to Jodie, she has been much better at staying with matches and seeing them out over the last year or two, very clear from the scorelines in many of her matches. She has matured in her reactions and it is eeking out wins in tighter matches that largely got her into the top 100.
Still, good he hear the above and something she no doubt has to keep aware of and aim to continually improve.
Oh yes, Jodie definitely started improving a lot mentally during last year, but was still prone to unexpectedly losing it sometimes and therefore losing matches she should have won. She's of my favourite players but has been extremely frustrating to follow because of that. So I'm very pleased to see evidence she's not only still got that mental strength after all her time out but now seems to be able to apply it more consistently.
