Yes an excellent and unexpected win. It also makes my prediction pretty much perfect for next week's results. Of course it won't look so good for me when Marnie goes on to win the tournament.
You just keep on winning Marni I've got her as GB #8, WR 220. Live she is #9 and 253.
You need WR238 to get the extra point for WR, which by coincidence is Jodie's official ranking. The gap is 29 points. Haven't checked the live rankings myself though.

She can take out Jodie who is of no further use to me ( ) since I have her as GB #3, WR 106 ( so Jodie can drop to #9 and I'll just take the point for her being in the top 10 ).
It's 2-2 in the second but she had a break point (and did nothing wrong at all, no blame in not taking it)
It's possible that her forehand looks just a touch more shaky, as it's the leg she leans on, and isn't pushing off to get the backhands out wide quite so well - but that also might be me superimposing the leg tape onto the match

Working from home today so decided to put a bit of tennis on in the background and I think Jodie is looking pretty solid here in Dubai and my pick for winning the tournament. Does anybody know if she will have a chance of automatic qualification for AO if she wins here? Either way it wont be long before she heads back in the top 100 Also does anybody know the highest amount of players we have had in the top 100 at one time?

Re the highest number of players we have had in the top 100, this century ( and well back into the last one ) it is 4.
Until recently that was just one week, 16/07/12, with Heather W, Anne K, Laura R, and Elena B, with Bally WR 100 that week.
Recently there have been a further 4 weeks, 21/10/24 - 11/11/24 inclusive, from when Sonay entered the top 100 until Harriet slipped out - Katie B, Emma R, Harriet D, and Sonay K.
Our hest ranked #4 has been Sonay, WR 88 at 04/11/24.
So if next year all 4 of these were in the top 100 plus Jodie ( who of course has been there before ) it would be setting a new figure.

Main draw participants will be known this week, this tournament won't count but she should be in it with her SR and if not then the points here will help her get a place in qualification.
