Week 49 - ITF W100 Dubai, UAE - Hard

I had one of my 500-200-100 bets on Freya when she was 16 or 17

It's got close-ish to breaking even, a little under, with the 500, but not really looked as though it would ever cash in

But no regrets at all

She's been a bit unlucky, with her back, and the horrible situation with her boyfriend

And I don't think she's a very confident young woman, I think she could have done with playing it a bit less safe, trying a foreign academy/coach for a while maybe. But I'm not sure it's her.

But there's definitely some good tennis there. And she's finally, finally, stopped slicing every ball, even on the forehand, when she was under the slightest bit of pressure. I often watch some of her matches when she's on livestream - there's good stuff there. And I root for her. And the doubles has obviously put her in the environment of good tennis, rather than just hawking yourself round lowish ITFs (the same applies to Emily Appleton) - which has definite benefits too.

Wrt to her boyfriend, do we know his health? I saw from her individual thread that he had cancer in 2019, but wasnt sure how his health developed? I hope it turned out ok?

Freya seems to be going at more singles tournaments of late, hoping she will continue that next year I always liked her and thought she could push up to top 250...

She was #286 when she was 19, I don't know what happened for her to drop off so much in her singles game. She was for a short period seen as one of our future hopes to progress.

I think a lot of the above may have been factors. Ones I didnt know about, my hope came from everytime I watched her play she seems to have something there! So really hoping this works out.

Also could be wrong but sometimes when your doubles is good and your singles ranking is to low to play in the tournament your doubles level warrants it seems hard to then keep both up.

Marni takes three games in a row to take her match to a deciding set.

Rodionova had a tight match against Amelia Rajecki in Wimbledon qualies.

Marni went a break up, got broken back. Then got broken again at 4-4, playing a poor game and it looked fatal. But played a good game when Rod. served for it - and then an even better one at 6-5* with a lovely forehand winner down the line to take the set

Now, that was a GOOD win

And she certainly deserved that third set

Yes an excellent and unexpected win.  It also makes my prediction pretty much perfect for next week's results.  Of course it won't look so good for me when Marnie goes on to win the tournament. laughing.gif

You just keep on winning Marni   I've got her as GB #8, WR 220. Live she is #9 and 253.
