Mr Cheuque (which sounds like someone who passes off dud cheques, if ever there was one) is now 38

He has played a quite a lot of tournaments over his 'career' - and barely won any games, let alone more than one match

Go, Ambrose !

I've been trying to work out how it's pronounced!

 And Ambrose did 'go' !

We can now move on from wondering how to pronounce Cheuque, SC, we can 'shelve' that (as they say smile) and wonder maybe how Evamy should be pronounced?

Just all short, and without stress? Rather like Bellamy?

That's the bridge I crossed before I wrestled with "Cheuque"!  I decided that it was probably along the lines of Bellamy, to use your suggestion, with the "e" sounding (in my head) like the "e" in "egg".

In what sense did you mean "shelve"?  I've always understood it to mean the temporary abandonment of, say, a project rather than the dropping of it permanently.  Is there another, newer meaning that has not so far come to my attention?

No, SC, you're right (about the 'shelve') but I think the 'temporary' isn't defined in length

But, yes, as you say, I thought we could put Cheuque's pronunciation to one side indefinitely/until he appeared again (if he did)

And concentrate on more serious matters, like Evamy (which we seem to have sorted too)

Which only leaves me to say that Ambrose always makes me think of those tins of rice pudding .....
