Week 46 - ITF W50 Funchal, Portugal - Hard

Obviously a poor loss but Jodie is still on the road to recovery.

I would suggest that when the Jodie ultras pile onto here later to unleash their fury and incandescent rage that we all help them put this result into perspective.

If I recall BJK said just the other day, she doesnt really judge a player recovering from injury until a year and a half has passed. So Jodie is in the right track. Come on Jodie!

I've no idea what this means above

Did anyone actually watch the match?

I saw about four balls in the second set - it would be interesting to hear from someone who'd seen it properly

The obvious problem on paper is that Jodie has 8 break points in the third set and took none of them

A shame as she seemed to be gathering momentum.

Shes only been playing for 2 months and it is going to be up and down.

I dont think well the best of Jodie until the grass season at the earliest but if she can keep gathering momentum before then all the better.

I'd hope that she'll be back well into the swing of things very much earlier next year, though yes grass may be her best bet.

For now, it's taking what she can from her remaining 2024 tournaments and hopefully then having a productive close season.

F:- Holly Hutchinson (GBR) / Ella McDonald (GBR) CR627 (351+276) [3] v Riya Bhatia (IND) / Polina Iatcenko (***) CR889 (420+469) 3-6 6-2 10-8

Great comeback from 4-8 down in the tiebreak !

Biggest title of their careers, and Ella's 7th of the year, Holly's 6th (and 4th together)

What is this and who are Jodies ultras?  I was disappointed with todays result but having not watched it seems she ran out of steam which is to be expected

The misogynist comments and outright vitriol on Jodies Instagram account needs to be reported. This is blatant abuse. I usually dont post things like this on here, but this has gone too far this time. Needs to be stopped. The posters need to be prosecuted. She has posted the awful comments herself with a comment to say as though she isnt already really upset by her performance. Awful.

A particularly nasty post on her account. Which is why a lot of the girls don't read or respond to comments.

Totally agree. it should be impossible to get any account unless you can be traced.

I was about to comment on this and saw you guys had raised it.

It is absolutely vile what has been sent to Jodie and I agree the individuals should be prosecuted.

Im a teacher and currently going through the legal process with pupils who have sent me vile emails and I am not going to back down. People these days think they can get away with anything online. Well I for one will not be standing for it and I hope so,etching happens to support Jodie and fellow athletes who are going through similar things.

The chances are that it's someone from abroad though so prosecuting won't be an option.
