Fernandez seems surprisingly off the pace. Or is Katie just playing too well?

Looks like Canada are short of a no.2 singles player.
Missing Andresscu...

I've seen Katie play much better recently - she's a bit erratic today, but Fernandez is certainlt below par. 4-0* - can't complain !

Katie is playing very well, Leylah with major serving yips.

Definitely feel like Canada suffering slightly from the bye and not having played.

Katie very close there. Bullet return at 30-15* that Leylah barely gets strings into, lands just on the line and Katie can't deal with the awkward line and just misses herself. Two missed returns and it's

*5-2

That was a very tight and ugly game....

5-3*

Could not find a first serve.

Ooft. At 30-0* again Leylah barely gets onto Katie's return and her shot skims the line by 10mm. Katie then misses by 6mm it's back to 30-30*.

Double fault and it's match point. Leylah finally gets a first serve and Katie sends the return looping long. A rare ace, and now it's very, very tight.

*5-4

*30-15. Great serve. Twice goes big cross court with the backhand but neither time Leylah moved so the Canadian is there and gets the winner.

Another much needed first serve and another match point at *40-30.

Double fault. Oh no

Great first serve for match point 3. Second serve, under pressure. Nets the backhand.

Another great slider out wide. Match point 4.

This time she gets the serve she wants and Leylah nets.

Yes!!!

Yes  biggrin

Tightening up like heck against a renowned battler but just kept trying to do the right thing and got there.

Into the SFs.
