Emma now has a start time of 5.50.....

It was a delayed start as a spectator took ill in the first set of matches and there was a 20 min delay

Well done Emma - kept me from being bored on my delayed train between London and Leeds this evening!

Emma is reliant on her first serve and it was firing in the first set.

I see Canada, the defending champions await the winners.

Possible? Katie against Leylah? Rebecca Marino against Emma?

Rankings of players make Britain the favourites. However I think Fernandez is under-ranked and perhaps Katie is a little over-ranked.

Raducanu should beat whomever she goes up against.

Doubles could be key.

Last time I saw Leylah live was at Eastbourne this year. OK different surface but I think Katie was on fire tonight and she could well have the beating of her with her stronger serve and more powerful ground strokes.

With the change in format does making the quarter finals help in any way for qualifying next year?

Rebecca Marino WR103 singles / WR210 doubles
Marina Stakusic WR127 singles / WR555 doubles
Gabriela Dabrowski WR3 doubles

Yeah, I'd say Leylah is a bigger favourite vs Katie. She has wins over Shnaider (who thrashed Katie) and Rybakina the past months, took Zheng to three sets twice too.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't 2-1 to Canada, but good luck ladies!

No, winner, finalist, host nation and a wild card are the guaranteed places who dont have to go through group stage.
