Week 46 - 2024 Billie Jean Cup Finals, Malaga - Indoor Hard

Could change still but hard to see past the Italians now with the momentum. Some fabulous doubles, after two excellent singles matches too.

Has changed - Poland leading 3-1 with a break. Do they play MTBs in BJK Cup?

Yes, a 3rd set would be a MTB.

The Italians 1 break up to 2 breaks down back to equality.

Well done Italy - tough for whoever plays them but lets hope we do. IF we do, we will almost certainly need Heather and Liv - and they may come into it with no match time.

Would be tough.  I reckon Italy would win a deciding doubles vs GB but on the more positive side I wouldn't see it as anything like almost certainly going to the doubles. I think we'd be more likely to win it 2-0 than 2-1.

There doesn'y yet seem to be a semis feed on the BBC website or on iPlayer, presumably they will have shortly? Sadly working so cant follow the video but will dip into the text commentary, assuming they have one.

Several places I have seen mentioned how we reached the semis in 2022...but surely that wasnt the same? We lost , if I recall, earlier in the competition and then put ourselves forward as finals hosts (Glasgow) and got it and a place given to us - and then we lost that match.

So - maybe I am wrong - 2022 didn't actually feel like any sort of achievement at all? Or am I being harsh and got it all wrong!?

got to hope for winning two singles here. Doubles feels like more a 50/50 call?

In terms of H2H, Emma seems to have had one match up with Hruncakova, but she gave her a walkover - so it doesn't count.

Sramkova beat Katie in Rome, on clay, in May - and so probably also has little relevance for todays match up

Very harsh and in part wrong.

I'm not sure we lost before the finals. I think being selected as hosts saved us playing a play-off tie to reach the finals? Whatever, that was a break, yes.

In the finals ( 12 nations in 4 groups of 3 ) we won our group of 3. We lost to Kazakhstan ( Rybakina and Putintseva ) and beat Spain ( Badosa and Parrizas Diaz ), Spain helpfully beat Kazakhstan, and we won the group on tiebreaker rules.

In the SF we just lost to Australia ( Tomljanovic and Sanders ) in a deciding doubles deciding MTB.

Good wins by Dart and Watson vs Spain, Dart vs Tomljanovic in the SF and Barnett & Nicholls vitally in both group ties before their so tight loss.

I do think overall this is a more earned campaign, especially with that play-off round win on French clay. But there was certainly achievement in 2022 and seemed maybe on a roll then as well.
