Ella beats Stresnakova (always seems to be a tough opponent at the GB indoors tournaments) and Millie beats Freya, both in three sets.

Didnt Stresnakova along with Malygina dominate the much missed UKPL at one time?

Katie reached several week finals but the only week she won was week 1, 2023. I remember her dominating British Tour but looking at the records she won 'just' 3 British Tour titles in 2021.

Ah ha - memory playing tricks!

Great week for Ella and Ranah and still going, singles semi finalists and doubles finalists together. Not too bad for Millie either.

Good quality, competitive match between McDonald and Stresnakova. McDonald serving to make it 4-4 in the third set - Stresnakova was the victim of a dreadful line call in her last service game and it briefly looked like it might derail her, she moaned to the umpire about possibly having to 'change her passport' to get better calls.

I guess that's one way for GB to gain another player!wink

Always tricky when two GB players are up against each other - you're happy whoever wins

But it was Ranah who came out on top today, with a 4-6 6-3 6-2 win over Millie Rajecki

SO SO good to see Ranah back on court, seemingly injury free (touch wood 100 times)

And really playing some good tennis :)

Agreed.

I feel like Ella, Ranah and Millie are sort of the next batch pushing through towards top 400/300 atm. With Mimi, Mika and Hannah.

Ella is not playing particularly well and had an injury time out towards the end of the first set.

Ella took it to a tie-break in the second but lost that quite easily, by playing a little short and letting her opponent dictate

Ella ran Bandecchi close in the second set, but went down quite tamely in the tiebreak. The Swiss was more aggressive and went for it.

Got to say that Bandecchi's Come Ons and celebratory screams are particularly obnoxious in a very quiet / empty arena.

Ella and Ranah have given a walkover for the doubles final

I expect that backs up paulisi's point about Ella's MTO (she's only recently back from injury and seemingly is still not quite right)

Shame for the two of them

But it means Ranah can concentrate on her singles tomorrow

Ella has withdrawn from the French 35k next week so yeah sufficiently problematic to rule her out for a week or two. Shame, great week.
