Great win for Ranah, Hannah goes down - it hasn't been a great year at all, has it?

Any insight on Kat Barnes? She has only popped up on my radar the past few months.

I think its Katie rather than Kat from what I remember of someone that knew her saying a few years ago. She re-emerged a couple of years ago after being out for a couple of years, I'm told because of injury. I think she is based in Czechia, or at least she is a member of a club over there, has a Czech coach and plays quite a bit in Czech domestic competitions.

11 out of 16 GB athletes through.
I only expect one overseas player to get knocked out in round 2.

So we've got one through, Millie R. comfortably through, probably the one you expected?

Maybe a couple of ours  more have a decent chance against non GB players.considering its a GB tournament.

Well, in the GB v peskis, two through isn't bad

And very good efforts from a couple of others

Certainly a surprise win there for Kat Barnes over Hannah. Not been great recently for Hannah re results but still so young and other things to be considered. She's on a journey and a great prospect.

Wonder if Kat is going to continue on a general upward trajectory.

Freya and Millie in dominate form again. And an excellent win for Ruby and Daniela over the #4 seeds.

I seem to recall a lot of noise on this forum around Katherine Barnes due to some issue that arose at a British Tour event - my memory is dim but I do recall there being lots of debate and finger wagging! I hadnt heard much about her since then, hopefully she is starting to make a charge back

Didn't Kat Barnes beat Emma Radacanu the year she won the US Open?

Maybe that is what it was, in the British TOur, and it got a little bit tetchy, some concerns re line calls and behaviour?

Kat beat Emma at the Connaught Club in May 2021 - I remembered it because I originally was going to go to Felixstowe the next week but something came up with work.

There was controversy arounf Kat both during that week and the previous weak when she lost to Hannah - well retired one game early and was then disqualified.

All water under the bridge now.

Edit - got my weeks mixed up - the match was the week before Felixstowe as Indi has correctly posted.

Yes, in Emma's comeback after more than a year out of  competitive action.

British Tour, Connaught club, May 2021

SF: (4) Katherine Barnes beat (1) Emma Raducanu by 6-1 1-6 [10-8]

Barnes lost to (2) Grace Piper in the final.

Emma was to go on to win the following week's British Tour title in Felixstowe and the rest of her year went quite well

Ranah is the first into the semi-finals, knocking out another seed in straight sets.

That was an enjoyable match - SO pleased to see Ranah doing well here - she's always been on my list of faves - such natural whip and speed she gets on the ball, skills that stand out of the crowd (and well done to that French Connection man again for supporting her through all those important early years)

Good quality, competitive match between McDonald and Stresnakova. McDonald serving to make it 4-4 in the third set - Stresnakova was the victim of a dreadful line call in her last service game and it briefly looked like it might derail her, she moaned to the umpire about possibly having to 'change her passport' to get better calls.
