Up to a career high of 23, would be 22 with a win tomorrow.

If she can get a top 24 seeding for Aus Open that would be very helpful.

This week's events count towards next year's race.

From the rulebook....

To determine qualification for the WTA Finals singles and doubles competitions, the Race to the Finals Leaderboard ranks (a) each singles player according to her Singles Race Points; and (b) each doubles team according to their Doubles Race Points (collectively, Race Points) earned from Tournaments beginning the week before the previous years WTA Finals through and including Tournaments beginning two weeks before the current years WTA Finals (Race Year).

So the winner this week heads the race for 2025?!

Watching the other semi-final to rate Katie's likelihood of a win tomorrow and I don't fancy her chances tbh.

No 1 seed Diana Shnaider looks too strong and accurate for K at the moment. If Leylah Fernandez can come back to win (but she's a set and a break down as I write) then I'd say Katie's odds are pretty much evens, but I can't see her beating Shnaider at all.

Thank you. It says a lot about the WTA schedule that the penultimate week of the regular season counts towards the 2025 race. It's great that so many Asian cities are ready to host events, but they've already extended the season by an extra week at the expense of the Billie Jean King Cup Finals schedule (which now clashes with end of ATP Finals and start of Davis Cup Finals). A very messy end of season calendar.

Shnaider wins 4 & 2.

F:- Katie Boulter WR29 [2] v Diana Shnaider (***) WR14 [1]

Does that mean that points from this year's Tour Finals count towards next year's race?  It would seems odd if it did!

It would be very odd wouldn't it. The points just count for the rankings, not for the 2025 race.

Thanks.  Phew that makes sense at least!

Also note that only points earned from WTA250 and above events count towards the race. The WTA125 and all ITF points are specifically excluded although of course they can count towards rankings. And for doubles it has to be points earned as a pair.

For example, Liv has 2172 ranking points, but with Tereza they got to 15th in the race with 1647 points.

Hopefully the powers that be at the WTA understand it all !

You must be using an old rulebook. The current rulebook (September 2024) says tournaments from the start of the Tour Year count.

To determine qualification for the WTA Finals singles and doubles competitions, the Race to the Finals Leaderboard ranks (a) each singles player according to her Singles Race Points; and (b) each doubles team according to their Doubles Race Points (collectively, "Race Points") earned from Tournaments from the start of the Tour Year through and including Tournaments beginning two weeks before the current year's WTA Finals ("Race Year").

Tour Year is defined as
A year commencing the day immediately following the final day of the WTA Finals and extending through the final day of the WTA Finals the following calendar year.

I was using the 2024 rulebook that I downloaded some time ago - but I see that the current 2024 rulebook is different from the one I have saved - so yes, they have changed it and you are correct. Makes much more sense, doesn't it !

So this weeks tournament for Katie counts towards rankings - as youd expect - but towards any Race; which makes sense and is in line with things like the golf PGA Tour.

But still bizarre to have tour events that don't count for the year-end champs I get why - the calendar is squashed - but would never happen on the ATP Tour.

You prefer the ATP system where a player might have to play a 250 the week before the finals so they arrive there knackered?

This is a much better way of doing it.
