Week 44 - WTA 250 - Hong Kong, China (outdoor hard)

Interesting game in the Boulter / Zakharova match. 40-15 down , Zakharova thinks Katies ball is out and sits down. Awkwardly, Katie has challenged and its actually in. A couple of points later, Katie has won the game And the first set!

And Katie has now bagelled Zakharova in the second set and won the match emphatically!

Yeah that break of serve proved to be the difference. Zakharova's level dropped significantly and Katie was just squashing her serve.

Well done Katie, strong end to the season here - although not the strongest of fields in this and her last event, it still has to be taken advantage of and she seems to be doing that well!

Well done Katie! I managed to see some of the second set - some great shots and rallies!

Good to see Katie marching on and climbing up the rankings little by little (up 2 to 27=CH in live rankings).

Liv and Tereza take the first set in a tie-break - they made hard work of it and should have won both the tiebreak and the set much earlier.

I know I'm stating the obvious, but would be really helpful for Katie to bank a large number of points here, to help protect her ranking in the first half of 2025.

Very canny our Katie. In selecting tournaments and hanging in there she is an excellent example as to what can be achieved away from the big name tournaments and slams. Well done. Our up and coming youngsters could learn alot from her strategy. Sharp mind means after she is done with the tour, IMO she could be a world class coach and an excellent BJK captain.

Back to back semis and hopefully more. You can only play who is the other side of the net and whatever their ranking it can be very difficult.
But a strong end to the season for katie and no doubt she will be aiming for more next year.
Totally agree our youngsters can learn a lot from her clever scheduling to try and get the best out of your own game.

Can I say that everything about Katie has improved a hundred-fold since Jezzer has gone?

And, connected maybe, since Alex has come on the scene ?

I think Alex has most definitely done something for Katie's game.
That support from somebody else at the top of the game who believes in you is a big thing mentally.
