she did seem frustrated throughout. As usual hitting brilliant winners but followed up with a lot of inconsistency. Having said that however she came back from 4-2 down to win the second 6-4. Still a way to go until she gets back to her previous level But to beat a top 200 player is a start
Just watched the final set of Hannahs match. Obviously up against a 150ish ranked player, so realistically she should have been second favourite in any case. Lost it 5-7, but it could have been (perhaps should have been) very different. Her serve is pretty decent already, albeit the aborted ball toss almost every single point was driving me crazy by the end - theres an argument for penalising this recent trend IMO. There wasnt much in it from the back of the court - I didnt think Hannahs opponent had any top 50 weapons at all. The difference was unforced errors - and not really over-playing errors - more average footwork. On quite a few occasions she went for the final shot simply too close to the ball, not bothering to make those little steps to get into pole position. Rather like Laura Robson of old (but without the awesome firepower and ball-striking prowess). All of this can be sorted, of course, so lots of upside - but I must admit I was a little surprised and I thought she looked better a year ago. Mika looks a long way ahead right now, but a great little rivalry. Hannahs time will come!
I agree with the comments above
It's all to do with the big change in her coaching set-up, in my opinion, which might be an issue, or my just be an adaptation process
She left school, started at the NTC full-time in January this year
My view is that it hasn't been a huge success
And I think she plays miles better when her old , coach Haran is there - like this week where it was pretty good, lots of positives, a high level
And the times I've seen her play this year without him it's been pretty awful
I know we're all very excited by these youngsters, but since British tennis elite players have been plagued with injuries (I think Heather is the only top player who I can think of as being consistently fit/minor injuries in the last 20 years) I would rather these players focus on growing into their bodies and developing their games with that in mind, and think about where they could be in the future. It's a long running joke on TF that British players are made of glass...I don't think any additional pressure should be placed on them. Not that anyone here is - we all want the best for them!
It's a problem all over for youngsters - look at the awful time a lot of the top elite young Czech girls have been having
And the woes of junior #1 Korneeva
At the even younger end, the Italian young star has been off for 6 months
Efremova was out for 4 months
It's just endless.....
Yes, let's hope phyiscal and mntal fitness and happiness is their top priority
But that's not how the coaches generally get paid
I.e. its wrong, to me, for junior coaches to be paid/promoted/assessed etc purely on junior results
Which is generally the case
Because that obviously motivates focus on shortterm success

Talking of injuries, this waas Salkova's first tournament back after retiring at WTA Prague in July. As you say, not necessarily a British problem.
Watched Most of Hannah and Jodies matches today. On YouTube. I still think Hannah has the game to be a top 50 Player at least. Jodie again got the win but seems very frustrated with her game.

Absolutely agree but then I have consistently said how high I put game development ahead of short term success or who seems ahead at any point when we are talking 15/16 yos.
Where such as Hannah & Mika are at 18 / 19 yo is vastly more important than where they are at 15 /16 yo. We have surely seen enough of both Hannah and Mika to be prepared to accept much less than linear improvement in results. Calm ...
But yes that some folk here might be too caught up in short term results is certainly not helped by that sort of coaching emphasis and reward.
