Enjoyed watching the highlights of Mika www.skysports.com/tennis/video/36394/13238764/mika-stojsavljevic-vs-moyuka-uchijima-japan-open-highlights. (Esp. loved that sliced forehand winner at 1-1 in the match tb - one of the best I've seen!). Really encouraging performance by Mika!! Hope she's not building any scar tissue from losing her last two matches on such a way (very similar patterns) having served for them. She's going and inexperienced enough to feel she'll just learn from it all.
On to quarters for Katie. Top 20 beckons if she wins the title...
In realty Katie is not a top 20 player yet. Its only her grass court success that has kept her ranking so high.
I think there is a big gulf between the top 20 and the remainder
Katie has 428 points in three counters from the grass court seaon out of a total of 1741 points. If you reduce those grass counters to first or second round only she would be around 250 points down and live ranked around 37. Hopefully she will collect enough points over the next few weeks to maintain a seeding position of the AO.

Katie did have one good result on hard courts in February this year with her win in the WTA500 San Diego tournament. All five of her opponents were inside the top 40 with Haddad Maia the strongest at WR13.
