Im only dipping in and out but this seems a remarkable performance given the ranking of the Japanese - and the home town player as well.
Definitely! Although, the Japanese player's ranking does seems inflated from ITFs. She has only had a handful of maindraw wins on the WTA.
Those main draw wins have given her 210 points from slams - a quarter of her points. But as you say, the ITF points (6 titles) contribute a lot to her ranking.

Over 61% of her points are from ITFs. she has only won 4 main draw matches at grand slam or WTA main draws.
Mika goes down. 4/6 7/6(7) 6/7(6). Shame, she was so close on multiple occasions. But her opponent played the big moments far better. Great experience, and clearly showing her potential with this performance.

Yes it was certainly experience in big moments decided the result, Mika seemed to lose concentration at the finish of sets, losing the balance between attack and defence that had got her into a winning position in set.
What a pity. But great experiencence for her, and while I was flicking in and out I thought she generally handled herself very well, took her time, and I wasn't particularly thinking that her opponent was far better in the big moments.
Super effort from Mika
And I don't think her opponent played the big points markedly better
After all, Mika won the second set, saved a lot of MPs
It's just that Mika had the more attacking game and when two people are a bit tense, the more attacking player is more likely to miss the line by a fraction
Great Asian tour :)
What a great couple of weeks (well months) for Mika. Hopefully will give her a lot of confidence going forward. I understand she doesn't have an agent yet and wonder if this wild card was a way of wooing her.
I think that was the first time I have seen Mika, and she was playing at a far higher standard than I expected. She was hitting winners off her service, forehand and backhand and she is fast about the court so she has all the ingredients to be a very good player. From today's performance certainly a top 100 player before too long.
